Supercharged focus st170

Hi im new to pistonheads and thought id share my car with you.

A bit of history on the car. I bought my ford focus ST170 new in 2004, the upgrades started with a bluefin superchip, induction kit and a powerflow exhaust.

Having done the minor upgrades, the modding started with a vernier pulley and an underdrive pulley it gave a increase in bhp and a good amount of torque.

I managed to find a worked head by roper developments and added some piper cams which took me upto 200bhp, This was about as far as I could go N/A so decided forced induction was the next step.

I splashed out on a powerworks supercharger which took me upto 294bhp - 230lbs/ft which was amazing.

Since then I have upgraded to forged wossner pistons and rods, and a SPEC stage 2+ clutch, lightweight flywheel and finally a quaife ATB diff. It just made 296bhp and 246lbs/ft at AMD.

All my mods have been carefully considered and parts upgraded to cope with the increase in power.
Its great to drive and a very easy car to drive. The power and noise are so addictive its a joy to drive. Very civalised when driven normaly, but when you put your foot down and the charger starts to whine the rush of power will put a smile on anybodies face.

Intake seems to be in a strange position... Sort of boxed in. Why are you selling it?

the intake is pretty much where the standard one is on the st170, not much room in there unless you move the battery elsewhere in the car, as for you other question, is there a way of sending u a message directly as I dont think I can discuss here.

I'm not interested in buying it, just think it is odd to have a thread about your car, and it has a for sale sign in the window.

I wasn't saying that you were advertising, or anything like that. Just seems odd extolling the virtues of your car, that you have prepared, with a for sale sign in the window.

fair point, got a baby on the way 3 door not practical anymore, not getting rid for any other reason, if i had the cash would just get another car and keep it, I absolutly love it and Im very doubtfull I will get another car that even comes close on many levels, but priorities say other wise, I need 5 doors and if im changing might aswell go a bit practical with it, got my eye on a leon diesel fr(210bhp - 320lbs/ft when chipped)50+mpg, low insurance £120 tax, if I went for focus st or something similar fuel/insurance and tax would all increase.

just though id share whilst I still have it.

What did the mods do to your insurance premium ? How much percentage difference was there from stock to the setup you have ?

my insurance fully comp with all mods declared is £475, with greenlightinsurance they give great rates on modded motors.

my first rolling road figure was 169bhp with a bluefin superchip, 6 years on with all mods now stands at 296bhp.

Thanks for that. What was it before ? Just trying to work out how much extra having something like this will cost.

Edit :: Just realised you have had it over quite a few years, so would be difficult to come up with figures with and without mods.

Sinizter when I had the supercharger fitted my premium went up by £60, when the clutch, diff, pistons went on they didnt increase my premium. With any other insurer I would of been stung badly, ive been with greenlightinsurance for 4 years now, I know quite a few people insured with them and id def recommend anybody with a modded motor or top spec car to get a quote with them, loads cheaper than the competition.

The Loose Goose it has the EGR bodykit which I think is easily the best looking kit for the focus(not biased at all lol) it gives it a nice look without going over the top. As for vids heres a vid of the rolling road I just did their fans are proper loud and the phone disstorted a bit but all I have at the moment http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b364/Ricksteruk/... will see if I can do a few vids, u after exhaust sound or engine?

Am i the only one thinking the money spent would have been better off just buying a Focus RS....

Nope your not missing the point,but thats what modding is all about, it has a lot more bhp than a mk1 RS, more torque. could get shot down for this but as it has standard st170 suspension a more civalised drive aswell.

If we all spent the extra cash we use on modding, everybody would be driving pretty much the same cars, this car has been built up over the 6 years ive owned it. If id bought an RS to start with no doubt I would of started modding that aswell, then it would be down do why not buy EVO. I never set out to make my car like an RS or any other model, it my daily drive and ive upgraded here and there.

The way I see it my car is different(as far as I know only 4 powerworks st170`s in the UK), people definatly dont expect it to be as quick as it is. Although you get more torque from a turbo you would still have to spend quite a bit of cash to get an RS upto this power. Having driven a mk1 RS and loved it, I would take mine over it any day.

Its taken you 6 years to get your car how you want it and you clearly like it a lot.

If I was in that position, I wouldn't sell it. Your not going to get back what you've spent on it are you. Keep it and cope with three doors

I like it by the way. Modified with a preference to increasing performance, not fibre-glass content.

exhaust, manifold, remap and uprated actuator should see an RS at 300bhp. Should be able to do that for a smidge over a grand.

That said, I do appreciate what you've done to yours, just not sure your thinking it through when you say you'd pick yours over an RS

good luck with the sale (I used my RS with my 1st child till he was 6 months old... It isn't that much trouble only having a three door, Ive now got an elise, kids are easy, don't sell it for that reason).

dont get me wrong I absolutly love the RS, think its the best looking focus to date, and i`d only take mine over it, because I favour the underdog something a bit different. there does seem to be growing comments about living with a child and a 3 door car, previous to me posting all I heard was 3 doors are a nightmare, but this is exactly the info I was after, its good to hear this info and comments good or bad.
as for the interior pics, cant argue with those comments. Havent done my self any favours at all with those, they were last minute pics for a mag that wanted to see a bit more of the car for a readers cars section. they dont do it justice at all and I know is a let down when selling then car. pics will be updated shortly.

Remember, when you were a kid, what would you rather your dad took you to school in? An RS/ST Ford? Or a bland 5 door economobile?

Keep the ST170, your kids will love you for it. Supercharger whine away from the school gates will benefit them greatly.
