This all happened 3weeks ago

After selling my crewcab and getting a company car I decided that I needed something to play with for the summer.

After a quick look on ebay I ended up with this, An Amg spec 300ce.....

One quick trip to Southampton and I was the proud owner of a 3 litre straight 6 automatic pillar-less coupe.

After a quick wash it looked like this

The Plans are

[s]fix funky auto box[/s] Many thanks to the guys at merc for setting my throttle cable up and it now work
[s]Fix random opening sunroof[/s] Loose wire on the switch (28/03)
Fix N/S rear window - very odd as it works from the alarm
[s]Fit stereo as it has nothing[/s] C.D player and pre fitted infinity components (28/03)
Replace anti rollbar bushes
Fit new numberplates
Fix N/S rear tail lamp

Then I may start changing things

28/03/10

As it was a nice morning today I decided to have a play with the merc, So I headed over to the parents house and discovered they had this smile

So stripped out all the carpets and got to work, 20 mins later I was faced with this

They have come up 100 times better, the dark spots are still wet.

Decided while the carpets were out I would start correcting the lack of stereo, Grabbed the multi meter and started working out how to wire it all up.

Stripped out the rear boot carpet to face this

Look closer....

Yes my bargain Merc has infinity components in it front and rear.

So while refitting the carpets I noticed my kickdown switch was not attached.

So today I now have a working sunroof, cd player and a fun button under the throttle pedal.

02/04/10

I managed to grab 5 mins and gave her a clean. Awaiting on loads of Ebay goodies at the moment so progress is slow until they arrive

Hopefully over the weekend I will get a sub in the boot and maybe my new wheels if my spacers turn up

Today

This morning got up early and headed down to the Malton Specialist cars breakfast, What a great turn out. The route I took was along some little country roads so the car looks a bit muddy now, I also managed to find an old garage on the way.

Yes I know I need new numberplates......But I have a plan for those wink

That looks really nice, I'm a bit of a fan of the W124 E class. Hopefully a nice E280 estate will be mine this year.

Very cool, but out of curiosity what made you choose this over a SEC coupe?

Thanks for the comments, The seats are good if your under 6ft sadly i am 6'4 so the seats are not amazing but its a mass of cream leather makes up for it. I did not choose this over an SEC i stuck a 'cheeky' bid on ebay and won it.

I have a few plans for it over the next few months

I am only 24 so i think insurance would have been an issue on an sec as well.

I think you might have started to convert the masses judging by the comments from all the Vauxhall, BMW and Ford drivers.
What are your plans for the wheels - the car wears its original AMG's well. New they would have been £££'s. Whatever its wearing, its a good job you have something else for when it snows !
I was down in the SLK ('orange'), parked directly ahead, which I have had for only about three weeks. Then got into the S124 afterwards getting, it ready for 3,000 miles around Scotland over the coming two weeks. Being only a 220 it felt like a snail.

In fact, due to the arrival of the SLK I have a 190E going very cheap due to lack of storage - not in the same league as a C124 but far too good to scrap.

I had a set of BBS LM's for it but as a number of my friends are running these and due to the fact they did not suit the 300ce at all i have sold them on.

Coupled with the fact I have have fallen in love with the AMG's now, Sadly the front have a slightly too high offset and just sit a little far out the front arches for my liking. So i am looking into getting them machined down a little to reduce the offset and fitting some smaller front tyres as she has 225/45/17s current.

Then spacing out the rears 10-15mm and lowering a little more.

I have a few interesting bits in transit at the moment and will no doubt be adding to this as i go. I am currently pondering what steering wheel and gear knob to go with.

Absolutely love these things, been very tempted by them lately. Stick with the AMG monoblocks, I've not seen a set of wheels which suit the CE more.

There's a lot to be said for wheels that are easy to clean! - 2 minute job with those AMG rims. I can't think of another wheel that would suit the car better, if I had to make a choice I'd probably go for a more modern AMG split rim from something like the SL65 if it would fit.
Or this

Is that 190e 2.3 of yours working again yet?

I dont think the wheels are AMG - look like reps, do they have the engraving?

It has the post 94 rear lights though which are a big improvement.

Strong 124-beard here boxedin

I have loads of history that show the wheels coming from a main dealer, once i have a free weekend i will take a wheel off and have a look at the markings on the rear. I also thought it had the later spec smoked rear lights, It also has clear fronts and side repeaters.

I meant like this -

the rear looks much better for the light change. You cant beat a 124 for value though, so much car for the cash. Enjoy it.

Almost! It runs and it's MOT'd but it's not starting or running right on cold, hoping it'll get sorted this week.

How much did you get it for in the end and what's wrong with the number plates?
