Discussion
Going to be a track car

Stripped it a little

Its off at Nickson Motorsport at the minute having a full weld in cage done that also replaces the dash bar.

Engine built by Chris Wilson
Garrett GT2860RS
Link G3 ECU & full loom
Toyota 2ZZ COPS
BEGi cast manifold
BEGi stainless devorced down pipe
1995 1.8 Block
Carillo H beam rods
Wiseco FM 9:1 pistons
Boundary Engineering Billet gear high flow oil pump
M-Tuned coolant reroute
1999 Head & inlet manifold
Integral Stage 2 Turbo cams
Fast Forward Superchargers fuel rail
RC Developments 550cc injectors
Flyin Miata level 2 Clutch rated for 353 ft/lb
XS speed repacked 2.5" stainless exhaust
1997 Torsen diff
OZ Ultraleggeras
R888's
mk2.5 276mm Brakes
HAL braided lines
V8 Roadsters tubular front subframe
190lph Fuel pump
Koyo alloy rad
13 row oil cooler
It should be a bit fun, will get it mapped up to whatever the turbo can provide ~320bhp, car should weigh in at about 900kg will update pics as and when I bolt it together

Looks nice and engine should be good in it!
You must be local to me as Nickson is 5 mins from my house..
I'm about an hour drive to Nicksons. I found him searching on the web for mx5 cages - found a thread on Driftworks with pics of a cage he did and good reports and thought I'd give him a try. I pickup the car from him on wednesday so more photos will follow then You must be local to me as Nickson is 5 mins from my house..

Basically its a 6 point with harness bar, single diagonal, single door bars and a dashbar to replace the OEM mess and also hard topmounts.
I originally just bought a new engine to send to Chris Wilson to build up forged so I could up the boost from 12psi to 17psi - the stock engine can't take more than 12 with my turbo. Then I started thinking about other changes I wanted to make and thought I'd start from scratch. The old cars been caniblised and will go on ebay - it'll be a good track car for someone who may want to do a cheap forced induction car as it'll have a Spec stage 2 clutch in it and the sump already tapped.

Excellent little build you've got yourself. Very interested in how the roll cage progresses as I'm considering one for my own track Mx5.
Will you be keeping the hardtop with the roll cage?
Yes, hardtop was bought specifically to be used, the roll cage has hardtop mounts incorporated so the heavy stock mounts can be ditched. One of the many reasons for a custom cage included that most motorsport spec cages for the mx5 don't allow use of either soft or hardtops. Will you be keeping the hardtop with the roll cage?
The soft tops gone, its quite suprising just how much can be ditched :-

You could build the same (when complete to the spec above) with a £10K budget I'd say - All in, inc the car, lock stock. You can go cheaper for a similar result, get a bolt in cage oppose weld in would save £600, be happy with 250bhp/220lbs (the accepted limit on a stock engine) and you'd not need the engine rebuilt so save close to £3000, but I've had almost 4 years of that power now so wanted more
I'll be a very fast car when done

Progress has been slow
Did a good amount of work quickly then i've struggled to spend any time on it at all. Going to try and have another push in the next few weeks as there isn't actually a lot left to do.

V8 Roadsters tubular front subframe in.

Engine in

Intercooler in, TSI's & Garage Vary front lip in, all the internals of the bumper have been stripped away for weightsaving.

Aero latchs fitted
I have also swapped in a 1997 type 2 torsen diff, swapped all wishbones, suspension, from the old 1997 S-Special track car and fitted the mk2.5 sport big brakes.
Next is the steering rack, and then total rewire..
