Mk1 Eunos S-Special
Discussion
Morning all. Having owned my GTi-6 for over 2 1/2 years...

...3 weeks ago it was kindly written off for me by someone driving on the wrong side of the road as I was driving down a local country lane.

So as a result I was on the hunt for something to replace it. Initially I had in mind to just get another GTi-6 as I knew them inside out and thought it would do just for now till later in the year when I was thinking of getting a DC2 teg. However, browsing Pistonheads you can't help but notice people mentioning mx5/eunos' left right and centre whenever someone puts up a what car thread.
So with that in mind I decided to investigate further, deciding to go and have a look at a couple just to get an idea on the car, these particular ones I had no intention of buying. I liked what I saw despite them being a little tatty around the edges and so this one came up, went to see it, a decided I wanted it!

So there's still a few things to sort, I've already changed the door cards but the seats don't match as you can see, it's missing the front strut brace and it could do with a new centre console but these are all fairly easy things to sort.
It does however have Eibach/Bilsteins on and as I've read and now felt, don't give the best ride so I may look into coilovers in the future. The noise it makes with the K&N and Mazdaspeed zorst (which I didn't realise it had) is very addictive though!
So although it's not perfect, I think it's a good starting point in my preferred colour so hopefully in time I can get it the way I want

What's the deal with the gti-6?! Is the engine still good or completely screwed? I notice you're in East Sussex, I don't suppose you still have the car or is it in the hand of the ins. co.?
Sorry to be a vulture but if the engine is still solid I'd be very interested.
It was all dealt with by the insurance company so I have no idea where it is now, I doubt the engine would've survived a 40 odd mph crunch too well anyway tbh!Sorry to be a vulture but if the engine is still solid I'd be very interested.

Well I guess I might update this on whats been going on to the little Mazda since I've owned it.
From the first post it stayed as it was for a little until it got fitted with a set of Rokkors coilovers as a cheap temporary fix for the awful ride and had a fast road setup done by WIM and was pretty much how I left it till about autumn time last year where I took it to wales for the first time.

Next up was a change of wheels to genuine RS 15" BBS's, a subtle but good change in my books. Plus one of the cheap ebay dished suede wheels, which coupled with my faomectomied seat give me a great driving position now
14"

15"

At this stage I was umming and arring over whether or not to keep the 5 as I was wanting to get a DC2 ITR, however one day I just thought f*ck it, I wanna get it looking how I want and just kinda had a blowout of parts including Meister R coilovers, garage vary splitter, 5 parts single exit, TR lane GPD, TSI's and the Grid V's, which turned into the biggest pain in the arse possible as DPD managed to lose 2 of the wheels, and Driftwork had no more stock, so it meant I was about 2 and a half week over when I shouldv'e had them fitted, luckily just in time for another trip to Wales which I've just come back from!
But anyway this is how it's looking now plus a few snaps from Wales.

(Excuse the girlfiend!)

And lastly a quick one next to my sisters Mk2!

Cheers

Oh I also changed over my gearknob, gaiter and handbrake gaiter today.
Can just about work out the old one in this pic, needless to say it was pretty a manky, torn leather thing.

New

Chose suede with red stitching to kinda match my wheel, the gearknob came from ebay and is actually from Autolink, although it didn't say that at the time. Nice and heavy though, made a nice difference to the gearchange now and feels much nicer to use than the old one I find.

I got the from here http://stores.ebay.co.uk/topgaitersboots, good quality and selection too.
Exhaust is one of these http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/product... , unfortunately I haven't got any close up pics of it fitted atm.
As for the noise, I love the noise it makes although others I know say it is rather loud
, people certainly hear it before seeing it now thats for sure! Various clips on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UmqCwFzdAw

But how about a 'stick on' front number plate...MX5s look so much sleeker with them on.
I have an old Lotus Elan ( which was the original inspiration for the MX5), and got an adhesive front 'plate' off eBay. Mine was to improve cooling as the Lotus Twin cam tends to run quite hot, and I was not sure about putting a 'sticky plate' on the paintwork, but it looks fine and I will leave it on.
Of course in the 60s/70s they were quite common ( especially on E-type Jags ) , so that is my justification...

Good taste, I had a Gti-6 before I got my Black S-Spec!
Mastodon - I have the same setup on my car, mx5parts cat-back, decat, and also a fujitaubo manifold. My car is loud, but sounds good. I have a video on YouTube somewhere. Thst clip of the red one is fairly representative of the tone you get at idle etc.
