My V8 M5

Here is my E39 M5 which I have owned now for a couple of weeks. It is a 1999 model with 68000 miles and has the facelift front and rear lights. It has full history from BMW and a lot of the usual costly items have already been done, new diff seals, new disks and pads all round and the alloys have been refurbished. I spent a few months searching after selling my lightly modded Mazda RX-7 earlier in the year.

Nope, it was an option throughout the E39's life.

No, it was the optional comms pack. Early cars got the small screen, facelift saw a CD Rom based widescreen, and after 2002 it was DVD based widescreen.

Yep, +1 on that. I have it in my 5 and always end up using the bloody TomTom.

Thanks for the nice comments guys! It is a fantastic car and one that actually encourages calm driving. It happily and quietly rumbles around at 2000rpm. Torque is a wonderful thing!

I originally wanted the comms pack but after a lot of reading on here and the M5Board I decided that I didn’t need it and it’s better to buy a good condition well maintained car than one that’s fully loaded but not been looked after as well.

It is without a doubt the best car I have ever owned… effortless performance, comfortable and very discrete.

Stunning. Has just aged so well.. everything about it looks right - the lines, the wheels, the proportions.. there isn't anything about it I don't like.

Desperately want one of these some day.. preferably before all the good ones are gone!

Had the pleasure of taking one belonging to a friend for a spin last year and it blew me away. So quick, so refined... it was most definitely love at first drive.

Does anyone have any ideas on typical running costs for these (in terms of mechanical, servicing, average costs at the garage, etc). Petrol etc I'm not too worried about.
