paperbag

Mainly as a way of keeping more money in the pocket but it's actually not that bad. Silent, easy to drive and makes decent progress. Rubber-band tyres make the ride a bit jiggly but it corners pretty flat. Sixty in a tad over ten seconds so no slouch in the big scheme of things.

Prius T Spirit with leather, cruise, climate, phone bluetooth, music hard drive, sat nav, head up display, in fact the list of kit is fanatastic for the price. Park assist and rear camera anyone?

Only negative at the moment is the attitude of other drivers. I've had three dangerous overtakes made on me that wouldn't have been in the old car, people just won't be behind it.

Can't say I blame them..............it is quite hideous to look at. Fair play to you if its saving money, but my god, what about the damage to the environment when it has to be disposed of 100,000mls down the line, what with all those battery packs ?????

Wasn't bought for climate change reasons either, all that fuel used to get the component materials for the batteries shipped to Japan, then all the fuel to ship the cars out of Japan....oh well, each to there own I guess.

Should have just got a bargain barge.smile

On a positive note, I like the colour !!

You bought a brand new Prius 'to put more money in your pocket', yep makes sense that.

I imagine it's a company car. It's so cheap to run as a company car from a tax perspective. Most cars of its size will cost the driver 17% benefit in kind tax. Prius is 10%, if you're not a petrolhead or if you've got a toy for the weekend then it makes perfect sense. Plus for £22k or so you get a car with a spec that would cost you £30k+ in an A3.

We had one on a weekend demo last month. It's mightily impressive if you don't mind driving an auto. The SatNav and phone interface is a masterpiece, the most intuitive piece of technology i've used in the last 5 years. As for the engines, it drives just like any other 5 door automatic; a bit sluggish at times but gets on with it when you want to. Handles actually quite well but completely bereft of any feedback. My only problem with it is the actual car body itself which is incredibly cheaply made. Everyone at Toyota has been ace so far too, their JD power rankings are well deserved. We've tried for 10 weeks to get the same demo from Audi of, well, anything.

As for image, i'd far rather drive a Prius than a Golf or A3.

So just the same as every other car then. Every car has bits shipped from all over the world, and the cars are then shipped out all over the world.

Aston Martin headlamps where/ are coming in from Canada, Honda initially have parts coming in from Japan, I know of one manufacturer where the door cards are put together in three stages in three different factories located across the UK.

Correct, 10% BIK cloud9

I had the options of the Audi A4 and so on but as with most company cars, it's not a weekend toy. It is however a very, very cheap reliable way of getting to work and making the odd business trip even with private fuel. Company car park willy waving doesn't really interest me.

Just had to buy the missus a new Ka so now I'm putting a few quid away to get a Caterham or such like kit for fun in the not too distant future.

I see what he's doing here, spend the week in purgatory to make the weekend Caterham usage all that more enjoyable!

In five years time most company cars will be hybrids of some sort, it'll happen just like the switch from petrol to diesel in the last decade. BiK is a powerful thing!

A friend of mine just bought one of these and I have to say they are actually pretty good cars and make a lot of sense for a daily.

Very comfortable to be and waft along in near silence and the standard equipment is very impressive.

He is not a 'car guy' but having a Prius has created something in him that brings a certain pleasure to driving, he treats it like a game in trying to get the best possible fuel economy out of it which has improved the standard of his driving no end and really makes him think about what he is doing on the road.

So there you have it...A prius creates a PH type person.

Everytime I see one of these it at 70 mph on the outside lane and won't budge, So much worse than bmw / audi drivers

(sorry but i really hate these things, nothing to do with whole hybrid thing, it's just so damb ugly and seemingly driven by dh's)

If the Prius suits your needs then why not choose it. Well done for being an individual and being able to choose for yourself rather than simply buying something to keep those guys on the internet happy. For what its worth I think it looks good in that colour.

would seem like a good idea, HOWEVER....

99% of prius drivers seem to think that because they are saving the planet they have the right to cut me up or hold me up (usually at around 56MPH in the outside lane) and from what I have heard the VW bluemotion Range, the Volvo Drive-e range and the Vauxhall Eco series all piss all over it in terms of fuel economy and I wouldnt like the cost of replacing those batteries at x'000 miles!

I can see the whole green motoring thing, and in a way i almost agree with it, despite the oil in my veins, but I dont think the best way is with a small oil burner to charge batteries in a plastic car (which comes from oil) is the answer.

For me its Hydrogen, far cleaner and no horrible batteries to change/dispose of, plus decent performance!!

Hydrogen is hugely energy intensive to produce. Plus you also have the same shipping and storage costs as with Petrol/Diesel. By all means hate hybrids but please don't do it because you've fallen for the Oil Companies' PR machine.

Good work on the company car tax. My wife used have 3 series, 1.8 petrol.

My jaw dropped when I realised is us footing the bill in tax- if she gets offered a Prius, or anything cheap on the tax that suits me!

Well done- hope its ok on long distance journeys.
