My new Focus

Decided yesterday that we needed a bigger car, bought this today from a dealer as PX to clear.





Its a 2.0 ESP with 98000 miles. Havn't driven it properly yet as the insurance company are closed until tomorrow!

If you can get hold of a 4 into 1 manifold these engines respond well

My Dad drove it home with temporary cover in his name. I can't get myself covered on it until tommorow.

ETA: By driving it properly I meant driving it on the road as opposed to moving it up and down the driveway where it now is!

I only got to drive it for a few minutes on the test drive

I was under the impression a car only had to be taxed to sit on the road?

nope, all vehicles parked on the public highway must be insured at all times.

Thank you, it was £1290. There are a few places that need touching up, apart from that it is in good nick.

its not a highway. its not required that a CAR have insurance, but that the person have insurance to drive. many people assume that you need a car to be insured to have it on the road but you don't. you just need road tax (although you need MOT an insurance in order to tax it).

you can't get done for having no insurance on a car you are not driving.

The above must be a record for the greatest amount of totally incorrect information in a fairly short post.

Of course the road is a highway - indeed any place in which the public can drive, such a supermarket carpark, is covered by the Road Traffic Act.

Regarding MOT & Insurance:

"Pumbien v Vines

(1995) The Times June 14 Queen's Bench Divisional Court

A motor car parked on a road was being used on the road for the purposes of sections 47 and 143 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 even if it was totally immobilised and could only be moved by being dragged away, and, therefore, required both a valid MOT certificate and an insurance policy.

The Court so held in dismissing an appeal by way of case stated by Andee Pumbien against his conviction of offences of using a motor vehicle on a road without either a valid test certificate or insurance policy contrary to sections 47(1) and 143(1) of the 1988 act."

Folks had a 1.6 zetec a few years ago, that's a decent car for the money you got there!

It was a bit of a gamble, but hopefully it'll pay off. It needs a wheel bearing and the indicators don't self cancel, but I'm sure I can sort that.

Insurance is swapped from the Puma to this at 6pm. I shall be sat firmly inside it at 5.59pm waiting for the clock to change!

Is there a noticeable difference between the 2.0 and 1.8?

If you mean the 1.7 in your Puma then yes. IMO the puma is a far better engine. I believe the 2.0 has a 130bhp lump. It is a good engine though. I just found the puma to be a little happier revving.

Sorry, I meant the 1.8 Focus. I had one before the Puma.

Just been out in it, the Pumas engine is definitely more eager and rev happy, the Focus seems a little lazy and doesn't do a great deal until 4K. Feels a lot more torquey though.

The 2.0 doesn't seem as eager as my old 1.8, but feels more powerful.

Will take a while getting used to a heavier car again, but sadly the Puma has to go
