That one.

Or this one.

Everyone will prefer something different. And what is this doing in Readers' Cars?

It's definitely that one.

This should really be in General Gassing.

There is no definatively 'best' hot hatch. They all have strengths and weaknesses, and are all good in their own individual way.

Asking which is the 'best' is something you do when you're 6 years old and comparing to see which is the 'best' power ranger.

Wrong. The Mk IV Golf GTi had no redeeming features as a hot hatch.

well the leather recaros were nice if it had them fitted and the interior was not bad if it is an unrattly one which some are and some are not, but that does not make a good car, other than that you are certainly right though.

150bhp from the 1.6 engine?

Possible but would be pricey & pointless. Thats what the 2.0 is for.

I'm afraid i'm not a huge fan of the focus RS, for all they're powerful and shouty; they're not the most useable car on real roads.

My mate has one and is chopping it in for a JDM civic type R; and i've encountered one who has absolutely gobsmacked when he found out that he was driving within an inch of his life to keep up with a 1.6 Honda.

My hot hatch choices would be

2-3k - Honda civic vti
3-5k - Clio trophy
5-7k - Honda civic type R (EK9)
7-10k - A late spec S3
10-20k - Clio 200

My favourite, or one i think will be a brilliant car will be the Mugen type R. Although it was a shame they did not use the previous type R. Another good hot hatch IMO.

Well i'll put my 2p's worth in

Previously i ran an Integrale Evo2, that's got to be a good contender for best hot hatch.
