My new (old) Merc W124

Latest addition to the stable. Been looking for a good (and cheap) one for a while. Ended up getting this from my mother who found it suprplus to requirements after buying a Forrester and having a few too many W124's anyway!
Loving it so far. Its a 280 with grey leather, 170k. All in reasonable nick with usual niggles....

Very nice - did consider buying one of these as a non-depreciating family car, but in the end was tempted by a modern Saab. Like the Saab, but still wonder if I made the right decision....

None I bet.

I have an almost 20yr old 230TE, 215000 miles and virtually everything still works. Just the electric tailgate assist and automatic aerial.

they have a great reputation for reliability these old Mercs not like todays below par E-class

Yes I've seen Wayne a few times since he bought the car and I'm so glad it's gone to someone who cares for it as much as I did. It was/is a beautiful car...

Niggles are the tailgate support has gone, heaters N/W, console lights N/W, drivers mirror moves around at speed. All minor things that I can sort.

I am sitting at my desk a mere 1/4 mile from where you took the pics, small world.

Looks a nice car save for the standard rusty wings. I had a saloon that had inoperative console lights, the wood just pulls off - be ready to hoover up the 20 years of grime underneath the wood. From memory it is only one or two bulbs that do the lighting up of the console.

Thanks. I was passing through on way from the City to Wimbledon. Battersea Pk was perfect spot to stretch the dogs legs and a photo op!
I've got it in today having the niggles fixed but thanks for the tip.
