I've been doing this project for four years and it has been hard work finding parts. What do you reckon chaps?

This is how it was when I bought it - many thousands of pounds ago...

And just as it arrived at the bodyshop for the Lambo/ASBO orange paintjob:

Love TA22s. First car I bought myself was a TA22 twincam (GT)- rare as rocking horse dung even then (ST's are now too).
Think there are less than 10 GT's on the road in the UK now from what I read. Wish I'd never let mine go

Well done for getting that back together - must have been a nightmare finding parts.

I really like that, out of interest, how do you get on with the mirrors on the wings? I've never driven a car with them.
Yes they do take a little bit if getting used to. THe issue is more the size of the reflection rather than the position. They massively reduce blind spot though and reversing is much easier as you can see right the way down the side of the car. I'm sure the only reason modern cars don't have them is pedestrian safety. Thanks for all the comments chaps. Yes, finding parts is awesomely tricky. I had to order them from everywhere from Australia to Japan, America to Belgium.
This is fitted with a 2TG of sorts - it's the 2TGEU which was JDM only for the TA22. Mine came fitted with carbs but I sourced the EFI manifold from a chap in Malaysia and am now running OMEX 500 management. Dyno'ed at 100rwhp and 118lb/ft at the wheels. It's not fast but is certainly perky - enough to worry modern hot hatches and the extra torque makes it a match for modern TDs in gear on the motorway. That's about as much as you could hope for I'd say without going bonkers and really supe'ing it up.

Of its day I think it was a far more interesting car than a Mk1 escort - handling was "interesting" though - steering box was crap & it understeered like a pig ISTR

Interesting stuff - have you got a pic of the EFI? My 2TG has a pair DHLA 40's and a Janspeed manifold/exhaust on it

What car is your 2TG in?
Steering box ain't great but I've got TRD rear shocks and AE86 front struts with Bilsteins so I don't have a major issue with understeer.

I love this car

Love the fact you kept the original engine

Not sure it will be the original (in that car). The ST Celica had a 2TB in it, pushrod, OHV, twin downdraught solex carbs. The GT had this 2TG twincam in it (Head made by Yamaha I think) but with a pair of side draught Solex carbs. Also a 4 speed box & an LSD.

ISTR a standard 2TG made about 120bhp at the flywheel, but it was a pretty tunable thing - especially with a decent pair of carbs & an exhaust on it - the standard was a simple cast manifold & 2 silencers in the system ISTR.
That EFI setup is a rare thing & I'm not sure it was ever sold in tthe UK (maybe not even Europe)
ha ha... give me time, at the moment its parked up at the farm.
When I got it the brakes were locked on, running like a pig and no fan to cool the engine. It's now also leaking fuel every where as one of the pipes has split, but that's a nice easy fix.
It pretty much looks the same as it did in the other photos, just with a lot of dents and most of the trim falling off... so sad. I took one look at it when I saw it for sale and fell in love.
it will be having whole new rear aches added that I have found (in originally wrapping), as well as full colour change as I have to say the bright orange just isn’t me and I think doesn’t really doesn’t suit the age of the car so I think it will be going ta22 Scandinavian white, a very limited colour when this car was first out.

and I have to say I have a lot of work to do on it as its not in the state of the pics on here show. Such a shame that in 4 years people can let things go so badly
