Just realised I hadn't put any details of my car up on PH yet, so here goes.

I sold my red turbo'd MX5 a about a year ago now and having had a nice bike and an immaculate MR2 Turbo, I still had an itch to get another MX5.

Well I scratched the itch a few months ago and bought a mint - and I dont use that word lightly - black 1.8 Eunos Roadster. It was imported by Dandycars in 2006 and I have the purchase receipt for £5,800 which included a full underseal on entry into the country.

I've done a few upgrades, but have a lot more planned for it. The mod list looks like this: (it might take some time!)

  • Fit mohair roof - Done
  • Fit some sort of roll bar (no style bars)
  • Elise seats / lightweight bucket seats - Done
  • Coilovers - I'm currently debating whether to drop the money I have spare right now (around £800) on P5 Sportdrive, Gaz gold pro or some cheaper alternative - It is a LOT of money for me - Done
  • Wheels - Done
  • 949 Racing Corrado brake brackets - Done
  • Megasquirt ECU & Injectors
  • Turbo, Manifold, downpipe, exhaust, wideband, intercooler & pipework, Radiator
  • 6 speed box
There's no huge rush, and I'm going to try and do it on a bit of a budget this time and do the megasquirt DIY instead of the MSPNP.

So far I've got the car handling really nicely with uprated poly bushes all round, Gaz Gold pro coilovers and OZ Superleggera wheels wrapped in Michelin Exalto PE2's. I took it on Knockhill recently and it performed beautifully but is in desperate need of more power.

I'm accumulating parts at the moment and will hopefully have it turbo'd by summertime.

I'm aiming for a perfect little sportscar and gunning for around 280bhp until an eventual engine build. With great bodywork, strong power and a good handling I think it'll be awesome.

Here are some progress pics. I hope you like it smile

After its first clean:

Some upgrades:

Poly bush kit and 280mm brake brackets:

Devils own water injection kit:

Gaz Gold Pro Coilovers:

New mohair / glass roof which finally made the car watertight. I also fitted an OEM front lip:

With the exception of the bigger brakes on the front, that's how the car looks just now. I'll try to keep the thread updated if there's any interest!

The dinky, multi-spoke OZ wheels (are they Superlegerra or Ultralegerra?) really suit the car well.

-EDIT- that'll teach me to read.

Another MX5! Black is rapidly becoming my favourite colour for them.

Looks tasty now.

Looks superb, miles better with the new wheels and whatnot!

280BHP on a standard engine sounds a little high mind, how do you plan to achieve this? I'd expect you to have a piston protruding from the bonnet at those numbers!

280bhp at the flywheel should be pretty possible to be honest. I had 250bhp with a Garrett GT2554r on the old one and it was running out of puff and blowing hot air. This time I'll be running a bigger turbo and water injection for a little safety. Should be at 250bhp at the wheels without too many problems I think. Plenty of people on miataturbo.net run their GT2560's at that power output with no W.I and no problems.

Time will tell! smile

Looks like the 'tilt' function your get on some headunits? My fathers Alpine on the TT did it, looked a bit odd!

Could be mistaken though, and it is not fitted right hehe

Haha well spotted. That photo was taken the day after I bought the car. It's fitted nice and snug now with a new cage.

I had a mk1 eunos which had some nice trackway mods but stdish engine.

What seats did you fit, how you do it and have you got any pics to share please?

I struggled to find suitable buckets for it, eventually buying some off a guy who had imported one with bride seats fitted bit he was a little large to fit in!

This is giving me very bad ideas....

Do you know if water injection requires a megasquirt? I'm running a LinkG4 and I'm unsure whether it's got the capability to manage water injection.

Keep us up-to-date with your progress!

Had a few to many Vodka's but I'll try to explain. To run water injection you don't require a fancy ECU and can simply trigger an on / off system by a switch, and with a system that will trigger ON when a certain amount of boost is hit (say for example 7psi).

No need for ECU integration, although more sophisticated methods of W.I. might help extract more power or make it safer.

I know there are loads of people running ~250rwhp with GT2560, GT28RS etc on miataturbo.net. No reason we can't do the same here.
