My 1973 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 Series 1
Discussion
Hi everyone,
This is my 1973 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 Series 1. It's a Canadian spec model, which explains the late build and why it's a Series 1 and not a Series 2 car. It has extra front bumper guards to satisfy North American legislation.
I bought it off a Jaguar dealer in 2008 who had taken it in on trade for a brand-new 2008 XJR. The previous owner had owned it since new, and had just retired. The Jaguar dealer had wanted to send the car to the junkyard, but luckily a good friend of mine tipped me off about the car, and I saved it from the wreckers. It was running decently, but the carbs needed doing, and while I haven't had time to work on the carbs yet aside from giving them a quick tuning, I've completed a few projects like new headlining, new carpets, new valve cover seals so it doesn't leak anymore, and new suspension bushings. It still needs new rear shock absorbers. It was repainted years ago in Regency Red, and the interior was updated with a series 3 leather interior and series 3 rear seatbelts.
It looks good from 10 feet away, but eventually the paint will need to be refurbished.
My current project for the car is refinishing the instrument panel.
My next projects for this car is - relining the fuel tanks, and rebuilding the carbs. It currently has twin Stromberg carbs, and I'm hoping to upgrade to a SU HD8 setup with two or even three carbs.
Here are some photos: (the 1989 Daimler Double Six in Tungsten that appears in some photos also once belonged to me).
