Should be an interesting thread. However, you have to lose the 14" wheels and stick with the 'pots. On anything else they just look wrong.

i love mk1's but hate the pepperpots always have, i may put the the rs 7's on my mk3. I quite like this look...

its not a standard car i dont think standard rims would do it justice

It's their size that I think looks wrong. If you do change them, I'd stick with the original diameter.

I'm not a fan of this "superchav" look. The Pepperpots have always impressed me, they're some of my favourite alloys.

Retro 'tastic biggrin

Reminds me of my XR2 MK2 'fleet'. Over 5 years I had three....

1988 Spanky new in red - lasted 3 months then nicked
1988 Spanky new in met blue - lasted 11 months then had to give it back when I left my then job
1989 6 month old in black - kept that one 6 years depite stolen recovered once then attempted theft twice rolleyes

Always fancied a MK1 but sans tin worm!

Good luck with the project cool

If you dont like the pepperpots, here are two great ideas!

i use the ford RS wheels, 7 spokes, but use the capri i Special ones on the rear (7j lower ofset so fill the arches really well!)

Or, 2, use Minlight / Superlight styles. A guy near me has a mk2 xr2 with superlights in 13 inch but like 7.5j and they look awesome on it!

Nice, love the mk 1 XR2, I had a blue one back in '94...loved it.

I fitted a Peco exhaust which gave it a nice raspy sound.

Sorry, pepperpots for me on the mk 1, anything else don't look right, but I'm a sucker for originality!

I feel dirty for saying this but I really like that look, it's wrong but somehow it works.

I've always thought it would be nice if someone would do OEM style wheels for the old Fords but a couple of inches bigger.

that might sound strange i should explain this is a very old school turbo set up with huge lag and on off operation, its no VAG 1.8t! it quickly overheats when cruising on boost

Get a better radiator, possibly an oil cooler too. Maybe even an intercooler for the turbo.

Any chance of a sneaky intercooler finding it's way in there...? Charge temps must be horrendous after a bit of stick...!

This sounds like a good shout. Should improve the lifespan of the engine and turbo considerably too, overheating just from cruising sounds like no fun at all!

Oh my. . .

It's certainly been a while since I last saw that car. I my interest for cars was pretty much started by this car. . along with Huw's previous obsession with Fiesta's!

It's definitely nice to see that it still lives on today and not in a scrap yard, sadly where most MK1 Fiesta's have been sent to.

Best of luck Ben and keep us updated on the progress. I'd love to see this car again, so many memories!

P.S. If you decide to sell. . . .

hehe
