EP3 Type R - with carbon air intake
Discussion
Cheers guys.
Yep, the car is pretty much immaculate, give or take a few stone chips - it's on '04 car so they're inevitable really.
Took me a while to find a good example. I didn't want any chavved modifications or accessories. It's just coming up to 50k miles but has been serviced religiously with all the stamps to prove it.
Oil consumption is pretty high if it's thrashed often, around 1 litre a month at the minute.
Re. the intake - the material itself doesn't make a difference so far as I'm aware. I assume it was made of carbon for its appeal factor and its lightness.
Here's an idea of how it sounds:-

Nice EP3. I had a Gruppe M on my DC5, sounded brilliant.
Is that the Tegiwa intake?
Cheers.Is that the Tegiwa intake?
It's the Tegiwa - couldn't quite justify the cost of the Gruppe M - especially as the Tegiwa is quite literally a carbon copy.
You're right, they do sound great especially on the DC5.
More or less the same car as me! Although i've added the 30th AE recaro's and a set of eibach springs to my cosmic!
RE the intake; they completely transform the car IMO. You'll notice the scoop on the scuttle panel; it constantly forces air into the intake; making for a lack of heat soak and adequate air intake, two things i felt the standard air box and air feed (Tiny feed, no more than 2cm and 5cm long behind the grill) gave.

Gotta love the ep3 , the gruppe m is quite dear , hondata do an airbox mod that fairly effective.
We have had our type r for 5 years now and still enjoy it , not bored of it so why change , and what to change for.

I've got to admit, 'upgrading' the car has nagged me. This is the first car I've had that isn't partially financed and is owned outright. I've looked at all sorts, and I've only come to the conclusion that whatever I'd be replacing it with would be newer and not necessarily better.
I can't justify trading it in and chucking another 5k at something that's no more capable than I have already.
The only exceptions being an Elise/VX200/S2000 etc - but that's not comparing apples with apples.

I might look at swapping the suspension too. It just feels a bit too skittish and not especially planted when pressing on sometimes - did the change help this?RE the intake; they completely transform the car IMO. Go for a set of Eibach springs, some camber adjusters and a fast-road set up from somewhere like Unit 8 or TGM. It will transform the way it handles. The use of the phrase 'fast road setup' and the response 'transforms the way it handles' is a bit of a catchphrase amongst EP owners. In a sense yes, it does but i feel it's more honda slightly winding back where they could have went with the car; with the 25/30 (Rear/Front) lowering springs and the camber arms (100% need these, unless you want to run 3.6 degrees -ve camber) and front camber bolts, it loses the horrible unsettled feeling you get if you are breaking over uneven gradients or back off the slightest bit through a corner. However as expected it does firm up the car a bit, although not too a point where you find it unusable etc.
Defintely go for the eibach kit, and not ABP's eibach springs, the back sits too low on a 30mm drop all round. Regarding the geo settings; i went 1.2 front (what it sits at standard after the 40mm drop) and 1.5mm rear, IMO it's a good compromise, makes the car no longer feel like it's leaning right over on the tyres, whilst allowing the tyres to last pretty long.
Any other plans for the car? I'm tempting myself into a decent NA built, as well as the Mfactory LSD i'm currently in the group buy for and a few other handling additions like roll centre adjusters and JDM anti roll bars.
