Essentially, on Saturday, somebody parked their rather clean looking Trophy in our car park next to mine, the gf noticed & said, 'that red clio's really nice'. After then explaining to her that it was a Trophy, just like mine, & that under all the dirt, they were both exactly the same colour ... i thought i had better get the bucket out wink

So, having owned it since September, with the only clean having been done in November, by a friend who got fed up with it looking so minging, i got to work. For all the detailers, i used a pressure washer, bucket, & sponge. All from Halfords.

It now looks awesome!! From a distance. Up close, its covered in swirls, scratches & black tar/rubber/stone chips, but meh, its track car so who cares!

And where it spends most of its time ...

Spec wise:
Espace V6 airbox ith Pipercross filter
Pure Motorsport aircon delete kit (inc. lightweight alloy pulleys)
JMS 98 Ron remap (higher limiter)
BTB catback exhaust

15" Pro Race 3's with T1R's (road)
15" clio 16v wheels with R888's
Ferodo DS2500 front pads (& Carbon Lorraine RC5's for track)
Eibach Sportline springs
Eibach camber bolts (-2.8 degrees front, -1.8 rear)
Whiteline rear ARB (set to stiff)

Bimarco Futura buckets, OMP sidemounts/subframes & OMP 4" 4 point harnesses
'OMP' dished suede 350mm steering wheel

Hope you like smile

That looks great!

Do you Clio chaps ever relocate the battery into the boot to help weight distribution?

Lovely, got to be one of the best all-rounder available within that price range. I like the wheels although the original Turini's(?) are tough to beat.

Do you know or would you guess at power ouput with the exhaust/remap? How much weight did you save removing the air-con? Was it a noticeable improvement?

Most definately! Its a brilliant car, cant think of anything else that would give me the fun/reliability for the money either tbh. Helps that all my friends own/tune/maintain them as well i guess wink

Re: the Turini's, they do indeed look lovely, but these are 3kg a corner lighter & allow me to use 15's which are considerably cheaper for tyres & the car drives far better on them as well!

Power output wise, at a guess i'd say probably 178-180bhp, clio's always do under book, so i'd say that was a fairly decent estimate (i've had 3 other 1*2's to base that on as well btw). Aircon delete has made a huge difference, not only removing 16kg of weight, but another pulley from the cambelt track, meaning for much better 'revability'. More akin to a Type R engine in its 'lack of inertia' feeling now imho, great for heal & toe, etc.

Oh, & battery in the boot? Yup, quite a few of my friends have done that, but being a 182, it doesnt have the wheel well (like the 172) that people tend to use. Im sure ill get round to it at some point though, & it will allow me to redesign the airbox fitment, etc.

Just under 175k i think. Had quite a bit of engine maintenance work lately at JMS & all seemed fine re: compression and state of the block as well, which is always nice smile

It's french....

silly

I forgot you put galactic miles on this one little D. And I was worried about my Cooper S hitting 100k lol.

Do none of the clio lot use rota slipstreams? Superlight (I just bought some to get rid of the titanic S spokes) and you could fit some big calipers underneath.

As an aside, when are we (you, me H etc) going to organise a catch up?

Why thank you!!

More Tripod here for you wink

Thats on T1R's, so i would imagine that with R888's, 2 wheels should be a possibility lol ...

Ha ha, this ones been to the moon & back, twice lol ... although i bought it on 170k, sod doing that many miles in a clio in 4 years!!! One of my mates Nick had some SlipStreams on his actually, but they all tend to go for 2118's, even though they are made of lard ...

When did you get an MCS, thought you had a Meggy, or maybe a TT?! Sarah's brother has a 240bhp one, tis rather epic!! Not as quick as the T on track though wink

You should see the state of my "track car" if you think this one is abused! Is this still on its original clutch?

I had both lol..

The Meggy Trophy literally fell to bits, to the point it went beyond being french fun and got annoying when the handbrake came apart and I couldn't put the bloody thing on. Plus it ate injectors and the flywheel went... Must have been a friday car.

Then I bought a 225 TT which was nice enough but lacked any real dynamic ability and then the car went in for a service and they said 'hmmm haldex fault..' two days later it went.

Now I've got the Mini. I have to say I bloody love it. It's a bit shabby in places but I got it cheap and its got the aero kit and other JCW bits. I'm just sorting the wheels and suspension out over the next month or two and I'll get a 15% pulley and get some power out of it. smile

I've lost count of the amount of cars now paperbag

Well yeah, its not that bad really, but its a darn sight more used than 99% of the other perma polished, garage queen Trophy's out there wink

But yes, to answer the question, its still on the original clutch/gearbox/engine. Fingers crossed it all lasts a wee bit longer!! Dont really want to spend out another load on it for a while - i did the following last month, which obviously, cost a pretty penny:

Cambelt/Auxbelt/de-phaser
Rocker cover re-seal
Engine/gearbox/brake oil/fluid changed
Air/fuel/oil/pollen filters
Remap & aircon delete kit
Coolant & thermostat change
New PAS pump & alternator

All work done by JMS Automotive in Chertsey btw smile

Another little update.

Aafter trying to buy one for years, I finally managed to get my grubby mitts on an MSV bolt-in half cage, so I trundled off to Oxford services on Saturday morning, & came back with a shiny new toy.

Reason for getting a bolt-in as opposed weld? Well, I wasn’t happy about having buckets, harnesses and no cage at all – be-heading myself in a roll isn’t on my wish list, but I didn’t fancy forking out for a full on cage that couldn’t be taken out if I changed my plans, i.e. put it back to standard/buy something else, etc etc.

Fitting wise, very easy, took about an hour including removing the passenger seat & having a sarnie/crisps/Pepsi break.

Before:

And after:

In addition, as I’m more about useable fun, I also removed part of the rear seat bracket so that I can still put the rear backrest in & out as required – allowing me to still use the boot as well, a boot. Helps to drown out the BTB as well tbh.

Overall, very pleased, fits well, looks nice, & if the worst happens will no doubt add a little bit of exra protection for my bonce.

Oh, dont worry, they will go sideways ok ... obviously not in a long, drawn out drift (like RWD), but fun all the same wink

Always fun keeping up with much faster cars on trackdays as well.

My Coupe goes sideways fine and keeps up with loads of quick machinery... I'm bored of FWD so just want a straight six 6 series track car to piss about going sideway getting black flagged hehe
