How do you tell a later one from an earlier one? Quite fancy one of these but the tfsi carbon build up always put me off a bit. Daily is a A6 Allroad, it’s been brilliant, just getting a bit bored of it.
Easiest way to tell, the upper supercharger pulley will have 4 bolts if it's the newer engine, very visible from the front of the engine with the bonnet open. The older engines have push fit upper pulleys so no bolts visible. However, with the clutched supercharger, that can fail - there are 'clutch delete' options available now though and it's generally only an issue if you go 'dual pulley'.

Fastgerman, my story is almost identical! June 2015 S4, owned from new, now ~65K miles. Like yours, heavily discounted although direct from main dealer - and the only new car I've ever had. I blew a fair amount of the savings on the options list.
Like yours, now serviced by local indy. The only unscheduled visits have been a wheel bearing, an ABS ring/sensor, and a flapping undertray. No warranty work needed (despite taking out the 5 year warranty!), just the fuel rail recall on the CREC-engined cars.
Love these long term ownership stories. The longest I’ve kept a car is 6 years.
My uncle bought a new Mercedes C63 estate in the summer of 2010, he’s still got it, the car is still maintained by the supplying dealer, never scrimped on it, and he’s only done 50,000 miles in it. He’s 80 later this year and still a spirited driver at times!
It’s bloody lovely, one day I’d love it to be mine. No one else in the family cares about cars.

I had a B8 S4 avant on a 2010 plate and it was a wonderful car, I did the revo stage 1+ on mine which was a pulley and then remap and gearbox map. I had an open air filter as well which sounded wonderful it was an injen one I think.. there’s a topic on here somewhere of mine. It’s quite a big part of the reason that I bought my current car which is a 2015 RS4 avant.

- 4 new tyres
- possible wheel bearing
- service + check a recent drop in coolant and oil… hoping the oil check is a sensor as the oil monitor varies a lot (minimum to 3/4 maximum)

Wheel bearings seem to be a common failure. I blame the potholes here!
I had an A4 2.0T quattro avant before the S4, which also needed one replaced. I looked up the reg recently and it's done 170K miles now, with no owner change since I sold it.
