993 cab - chassis too soft?
Discussion
HELP!!
As a previous 911 owner, I am keen to get back into a Porsche after tasting a couple of TVR's.
The problem is that I can't afford a turbo (been lucky enough to have had three in the past), so I thought I'd go for a 993 C4 Cab and get it tuned - guess the wind in the hair TVR experience has left its mark!
I'm still looking at potential tuning options, but a supercharger seems most likley. However, I have received conflicting reports about both my choice of car and the blower approach:
1) 993 Cab chassis is way too soft and is only good for posing around town. I am keen to do some hard driving and maybe a couple of track days.
2) The high compression ratio on the 993 engine does not lend itself to a supercharger and I would be asking for trouble.
I would appreciate your views.
Thanks,
Dave

Domster,
Interesting thought. I've just noticed that the fastest ever 964RS is for sale with 460 bhp (was in GT Purely Porsche a couple of months ago). LHD mind you, but that amount of power is very appealing!
Of course, if I could pick up a reasonably priced 996, then there is a blower conversion that delivers 420 BHP!!

Easy tiger, you may be missing the point...
A 996 with a 420bhp engine may not be as exciting as a 964RS with 280bhp, or a Caterham with 140bhp.
If you want the kind of raw thrills that TVR have been supplying, then there are certain Porsche models that supply them in more quantity than others.
A 968 ClubSport on track will be a sublime experience, but a 968 cabriolet will be somewhat frustrating. Don't think bhp is the answer to your prayers. It isn't: character and focus probably count for more.
That 460bhp 964RS sounds interesting. It'll effectively be a GT2 in terms of performance, but probably virtually undriveable in the wet. The standard ones will be fine.
If your budget is over 30k, I'd suggest a 993 RS or Turbo 4, but you are getting a different car in many respects rather than a better one. See what floats your boat.
