Help: 2006 C2S Oil Leak, Oil dripping onto driveway
Discussion
Hi Guys
When I went out today and backed my car off the driveway I noticed a patch of oil left in the area of the drivers side rear wheel under the car. I had a look underneath the car from the back and can see an area saturated with oil from where it is dripping slowly.
I have taken 2 photos and uploaded them so hopefully someone will know what is the likely cause of this leak? I had both the RMS and IMS seals replaced under warranty in Feb 2011 just before my warranty expired (at the time the RMS was only weeping slightly) and since then I have noticed the car has used a lot more oil (before the seals were changed it didn't drink a drop of oil in 2000 miles, since the RMS/IMS work the car has 'used' 1.5 litres in 1200 miles).
I am not completely sure that the car hasn't been leaking oil for a longer time period as I may not have noticed the patch before.
I am out of warranty now, is it possible that the RMS/IMS seals were not replaced correctly or is the area that the oil is dripping from completely unrelated?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Guys
Quick update I took the car to a local mechanic mate of mine earlier today and we took a look under the car properly.
He cleaned off all the oil junk with some kind of cleaner so we could get a better look and we discovered that the actual leak is coming from the that part that was covered in oil originally. The oil is not leaking from somewhere further up in the engine bay as once we cleaned it we could see that there was corrosion/rust on that part which after 20 mins started to weep oil again.
Does anyone know what that actual part is that I have highlighted in the attached photos? I'm hoping its just a seal gone or that the part is inexpensive and not a big job to replace touch wood.
The car is currently leaking about 20 ml of oil a day. Any tips on how to go about replacing the part would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
It will need a new pump as it WILL be corroded. Last time we did one it was £280 plus vat for the pump and around 2 hours to install it.

Hi Mike thanks for your helpful info, would you know if the same tandem pump is used in both S and non-S 997 models. I will look to try and get a good condition one from a breakers to keep the cost down and wanted to make sure that the there wouldn't be any complications? It will need a new pump as it WILL be corroded. Blimey, are we already at the point of 997 owners going to breakers yards for a £280 pump? Not knocking your choice to do so, just amazed that people could be bothered with the hassle for a saving of £100ishMrTickle said:

Agreed, on a £280 item is it really worth it? You might save £100 but be changing it again 50,000 miles sooner which would nullify the saving.MrTickle said:

lol the part new is £280 plus vat = £336, from the breakers it is going to cost approx £100 therefore a saving over approx £236. I only intend to keep the car another year/15k miles so what happens in 50k miles doesn't really bother me. Also its worth noting that for this part any corrosion on one from a breakers will be easily apparent and I will only buy one that looks to be in tip top condition without any visible corrosion. If I can't find a decent used one I will buy new not a problem.
Just because we own Porsche's doesn't mean its a crime to try and save a few quid when doing so will not affect the said car's performance or reliability surely???

I'd be surprised if you got a good condition one from a breakers, as they'll probably only break an engine that's been lunched in the first place. Therefore, the part could be contaminated anyway.
Also there's the possibility, however remote, that when you do come to sell an inspection will throw up that the part has been replaced on the cheap, affecting any potential offers.
Buy tat, buy twice.

Its an engine part, I'd never risk anything, only Porsche genuine part please.
I agree in always trying to save money, get best deal, thats why I had a specialist change my rads, coil packs, plugs and oil change for sub 1k, wheras Porsche want 2.2k for the work. I got it done for half the price still using genuine parts and the job was done very well.

Careful what you say on the internet or your £236 saving might well come back to cost you more at resale time...Good advice about what you write on teh Interwebs, RudeDog, and well targeted too!
