Exeter and Bristol OPCs
Discussion
If anyone has experience of either of the above two OPCs that they would be willing to share (either through the forum or PM me if you might contravene forum regs!) I would be very grateful.
Am interested in both the purchasing experience (fair or not) and more importantly whether servicing was deemed to be competent/thorough and fair (I'm anticipating having an OPC warranty but did they shaft you for pads/disks at every chance or did they do what was needed at reasonable cost).
thanks in anticipation

wow... is the service by Reading that good then?
currently looking to purchase a Cayman from OPC Swindon (used stock availablity) but wondering whether to service it there or Reading. Would be great if it's better in Reading.
Read that as a comment on his local OPC rather than on Reading. You might want to look at:currently looking to purchase a Cayman from OPC Swindon (used stock availablity) but wondering whether to service it there or Reading. Would be great if it's better in Reading.

Trying not to break any rules, just stating my own view, following personal experience.currently looking to purchase a Cayman from OPC Swindon (used stock availablity) but wondering whether to service it there or Reading. Would be great if it's better in Reading.
I would not take a skateboard to Reading for a service, let alone my car.
PM me if you want more.
Limited, but positive experience from Swindon, who are under the DL umbrella.
Bristol OPC are absolutely fantastic - a true first class outfit. Speak to Jeff in sales - a top top bloke and always keen to help you with a deal. Gavin & Oli in service are also brilliant to deal with. Purchased/serviced 2 of my cars there. Genuinely impressed and can't recommend highly enough.
OPC Exeter everytime
As runner911 said wayne runs a very efficient operation, i have had all my cars serviced and inspected by them for the last 8 years and they never let me or my customers down, there efficiency has helped build my reputation in 8 years they have never let me or my customers down, the faults they have found on cars just serviced by other OPC's i could write a book with.
On monday i am buying an 993 that the owner is having inspected by OPC Chiswick, the car will then go to Exeter to be 111 Point Checked again.
why?
I trust Exeter and i have a reputation that i want to keep.
The faults that some OPC have missed over the years has cost me £1000's in Preparation costs, but the efficiency of exeter enables me to give a personal warranty on the cars i sell

Another +1 for Exeter. I'm right on the lowest rung of Porsche ownership with a 10 year old base model Boxster but they have treated me very well on the times it's been in for fixes or services, and did not hesitate to lend me one of the floor models when I needed a loan car unexpectedly. Recommended.
Is there likely to be a massive difference in quotes for repair work between OPC Swindon and OPC Bristol, given they both are under the Dick Lovett umbrella?
Have had good experiences so far with OPC Swindon but I've got a reasonable sized bill ahead of me for some restorative work I've been told I will need to take out the approved warranty on my 08 Cayman S (haven't had 111-point inspection yet, asked them to do a vehicle check ot identify anything obvious I could get fixed during the 90-day period you can't apply for warranty). One of the things they mentioned I would need replacing is all 4 brake discs which have corrosion on the inner edge, as well as a minor oil leak (which has a significant labour charge for some reason).
Apocryphal stories on various forums seems to suggest that brake discs/pads is something OPCs always tend to try and get customers to buy, however in my case the 1 previous owner did little mileage in the car and it lived in Scotland (pretty much always inclement) so I'm not really disputing it needs doing. 4 new brake discs on a 3 year old 17k mile Cayman is not something I had anticipated before I bought one though, my Civic Type-R has never needed new brake discs in over 7 years and 40k miles of ownership.
I want to take out the warranty, just wondering whether there's likely to be any point in me trying to play OPC Swindon off against OPC Bristol?

Not sure they're apocryphal, those stories! Whatever you do, get them to return the old parts to you.
When I was in at Reading for a warranty renewal they told me I needed to have my front rotors re-faced. I wasn't surprised, given what I'd read on here.
At £770 for a reface, or £880 for new ones it was a no brainer for me. I told them I wanted to keep the old parts so that I could use them later after a re-face, but (surprise, surprise) when I went to pick the car up the next day they'd "gone missing" overnight.
I should have gone more ape-s
t than I did, really. Call me cynical if you like, but it did nothing to:
a) dispel the rumour of sucked teeth and "you'll be needing new brakes, sir"
b) endear Reading to me (along with their other failings which I've already listed on another thread)
Harrumph.
Good luck on getting them done - I've heard a good deal of kind words about Exeter, and not just from Stirlings, either.
