Im in the market for a 997 GT3, but would like the option to put the kids in the back.
I hear it is possible to do, but am wondering if anyone has done this?

There was a chap here with a gorgeous GT Silver 997.1 GT3 - can't remember his username, though. Had two child seats in the back. As far as I know it's NOT possible on the gen2 cars, but that's not something that'll be a problem for you (yet!) by the looks of it.

I am sure with a bit of imagination (and a a blow-torch) a decent engineer could fashion something for this to work?

As the car was not homologated with rear seats, in order to have them fitted and agreed, you might need to seek single vehicle approval from the SVA, Best speak to the DVLA for more advice.

Probably, but the main issue with the 997.2 GT3 is that is that the boot floor isn't as thick as the 997.1 GT3, so it's not able to take the seats. The 997.1 GT3 can be converted, some cars have been done by Porsche themselves which I've seen on the net...

I have the GT Silver 997 GT3.1 with rear seat belts fitted. The work was done by Quickfit SBS (www.quickfitsbs.com), it took them half a day and cost around £300 + vat (including parts). You are more than welcome to take a look, I am based in Colchester, Essex.

Anyone know if they are still in business?

If not, try JZM.
