Multi-car Insurance
Discussion
Can anyone offer any recommendations for multi-car insurance policies ? (five cars on policy)
I've just received my renewal notice from admiral and for reasons best known to themselves ( I've never made a claim) they've decided to increase my premium from £1,249 to £2,980 !
Any recommendations gratefully received.

I'll keep chirping up with my love for Chubb (via Symmetry) until someone forces me to shut up
Great terms, excellent service, easy and fast claims process (which I've used - this should be the measure of an insurance company, not just price) only marginally more expensive than Aviva.
Try Chris or Sarah-Jayne on 01252 560 550.
No affiliation - just happy with them.

If you search in general gassing there was a massive thread recently which was scattered with recommendations. I've just received my renewal notice from admiral and for reasons best known to themselves ( I've never made a claim) they've decided to increase my premium from £1,249 to £2,980 !

I'm guessing this was your first renewal with admiral since taking the policy?

Give 'em an ear bashing on the phone first before you consider jumping ship. They might not come down to last years premium but you should get a good lump off. I have 4 cars with Zurich, via Nowell & Richards, inc a Ferrari and a Porsche, circa £2200.00, extra cars cost around £250.00 to add on.I've just received my renewal notice from admiral and for reasons best known to themselves ( I've never made a claim) they've decided to increase my premium from £1,249 to £2,980 !

Pace-Ward do multi-car with Chaucer. Seems to be ok. P-W are certainly very good. I think it works best where you have a high car to driver ratio. So hubby and wife and 5 cars is quite good. When you add a car, it's pretty cost effective. In my case now though, there are about to be 5 of us on the insurance (albeit for a brief period). But adding the 5th person (a teenager of course) doesn't seem to be specifically cheaper than any other named driver policy addition. Not that I'm expecting cheap teenage insurance mind you!

I have a 997 GT3, BMW 335d and an elderly MX-5 insured with Admiral, all for about £1400 a year, with myself and my wife as drivers on all cars. I was previously with Chaucer when I had a TVR instead of the GT3, but their lowest price for the three vehicles went to well over £2k when I added the Porker.
My advice would certainly be to push Admiral for a more favourable renewal, but also approach a more specialist broker; my previous broker found at least 3 other insurers offering fleet policies.
Lastly it's worth trying the cars individually on one of the comparison sites. I got within a few quid of the Admiral quote with CompareTheMarket.com, with individual policies, albeit with the hassle of dealing with three insurers.
Good luck,
Pete

Steve,
i had exactly the same problem with admiral at last renewal - tried to bump premium up from £2,5k to 4.75k - on direct debit they sent thru the usual renewal notice and certificates 'you don't need to do anything, etc etc, we will take premium on so and so date' - luckily i had noticed that the premium had more than doubled so i called to query. they basically told me 'it is what it is', take it or leave it' with no explanation for the massive increase. so i told them not to renew my policy and to cancel the d/d. they said fine, they would do as i asked. however being a busy person i forget to read the small print which states that if you chose not to renew you must return the certificates of insurance. i insured elsewhere and thought nothing more of it. a month after my policy expired (and two months after my telephone instructions not to renew) i got a letter from Admiral stating that they had tried several times to take the premium from my bank account but because my bankcard had expired the bank were rejecting their demand. which was quite lucky, because if my card hadn't expired they'd have taken the full renewal premium from my bank and i would have been double insured. needless to say after establishing with my bank that no monies had been forwarded to Admiral i sent the certificates back after reading the contract small print together with a letter kindly requesting them never to darken my door with their shabby practices again.
so don't forget to return the certificates of insurance they send at the same time as renewal notice.
i now use a fleet policy prepared by ben stagg at MWA insurance brokers underwritten by Chubb - the cost is half way between new and old ADMIRAL quotes but it's a far superior policy, which allows me to drive any other car fully comp and anyone over 25 to drive my cars with my permission fully comp. also agreed valuations on my vehicles.
the broker also handles all the form filling nonsense and any change of car is brief telcon to the broker and it's sorted.

I had the same situation on renewal from Admiral. Keep in mind that they make the majoriy of profits on inflated renewal premiums where people are generally too lazy to shop around.
I then used the comparison websites to individually quote each car. I took the Admiral online quotes for each car and called Admiral. They then price matched each online quote and in addition deducted the multi car discount.
Unfortunately you have to jump through hoops at each premiun renewal but it does result in very cheap insurance if you're willing to put in the work.
Good luck !

You should endeavour to try Matt Burridge@ Fehnerts PLC. 01858 411931.
He specialises in all prestige and luxury vehicles with the likes of Chubb . I note most of you mentioned ZPC but they are quite restrictive and also their rates are flying upwards at the mo.
Hiscox also do something similar , akin to Chubb .
The service I have received from Matt B is exemplary and second to none in my opinion give him a try if you are struggling for family fleet cover or high end vehicles.

Go online with Admiral and do a dummy quote for yourself. Use a house number a couple down from you and some bogus surnames. I got 25% off my Admiral renewal doing that.

no harm with bigging myself up with some relevant advertising . In fairness it's all true
I can't decide whether you are a knob for trying, you think we are very stupid or are you are very stupid yourself. Whichever, I know of one place to steer clear of for my next family-fleet renewal
