Is it worth doing the above guys? At the moment £3k will secure a car for early 2005, and you can spec the car up from July. Do you think it would be cheaper to buy a 997 in early 2005 with say 1000 miles, or will there be a premium for these things for the first year or so, making it worth the outlay now?

Any ideas?

I genuinely think there will be an initial premium that will last 3 months...i think this may be at most couple of grand to beat the wait.
I would expect them to be trading at list for the first 6mths and you are likely to lose little money in the first year of ownership.

I have a stake in an early sept UK "S",,,,,and it is going out the door pretty soon after!

agree with that...........not limited enough production to hold a premium for long.............also many 996 owners may not bother with the new car when they get bids on their current car!

My plan was to knock out my 996 Targa in the next week before the dealers use the 997 as an excuse to take a sharp intake of breath and start tutting about trade in values. Step 2. Buy Lambo Gallardo (now available at list, as the premium market has dried up.) With a 360 replacement on the way, I reckon that 360 prices will ease a little and it seems that the Gallardo is set to be the supercar of the moment for a good while yet until baby Maclaren/997 Turbo arrives in 2005 - 2006.

I've put a deposit down on a 997 'S' Tip, and have been told to expect early 2005 delivery, the extra £8k over the standard car seems a good deal looking at the spec and performance (I can't see why anyone would buy the Carrera actually). Anyway. the plan would be to run the Gallardo for a year or so before switching into the 997 when it finally arrives. I'm not attempting to suggest that any of this makes any financial sense but I thought it makes for a good years motoring and hopefully demand for the two cars involved will mean it MIGHT be less painful that a 355/360 swap etc.
