Hi guys, got a 968 (94) with the factory fitted porsche immobiliser that is a little fob you put in down by the ignition key.

Basically car now won't start!!!

The immobiliser light is flashing, and you put the fob in, it used to beep 4 times, then it would crank and start, but now totally dead.

The immobiliser is doing nothing, and all that happens if you turn the key is the guages come to life, wont even crank!!!

any ideas much appreciated. I have tried all the usual like disconnecting battery for 5 mins, checked fuses etc, but all out of ideas now,

cheers guys!

Afternoon,
Try cleaning the contacts with a rag damped (not soaked) WD40. Might just be grot build up. It happens. If one 'side' of the immobiliser has a recess, try a cotton bud, but gently pull the excess off first so it doesn't block what it should be cleaning.
Good Luck!

Hi if the system misreads the key,it goes into shut down mode for 7secs ,and does not try to read the key,the red led flashes quickly.Put the key in and hold it in longer than normal and it should work.

Are you sure that it isn't a dealer fit immobiliser rather than a manufacturer fit one.
Many cars built for the UK market in those times did not come into the UK with security. They were fitted by the dealers on PDI. If thats the case, it should be fairly easy to by-pass.

i think its a factory system as it said ''Porsche immobiliser'' on a little sticker on the fob thing.
Ended up hiring a trailer this afternoon to get her home, so will have a look tomorrow morn, and try the suggested methods....today was not a very productive day, lol !

Get a new immobiliser key from Hamilton and Palmer, you will need the code which can be found on the immobiliser more than likely under the passenger seat. Either that or take it out - it breaks 4 or 5 circuits.

Unfortunately they can and do pack up. Go buy a new one to solve the problem.

As well as cleaning the contacts on the key have a look in the receiver to make sure there isn't a bent pin. It sounds like a Porsche main dealer fitted Thatcham cat2 immobiliser originally made by Hamilton & Palmer. Porsche part number 999 999 795 02

As has Been said already check your car battery just to make sure.

I can't remember on those but was there a small in-line fuse block installed under the dash as part of the system? If so check that as well.

Hi guys, found the main box, its a Hamilton and Palmer system. It was 'dangling' under the dash in the passenger footwell.
I had actualy put the car into a local auction to sell it, then they rang to say it wouldnt go, despite me driving it down there the night before, and the alarm, NEVER being a problem before!! And I'm fairly confident the main box wasnt dangling down before either!
God knows what those muppets did to it, but think I'm just going to get the alarm taken off now!Oh....and never use that auction again, not even a hint of an apology, just blamed a guy that happened to be off work, hmmmmmm!

I have the same problem on my 993. Car has got soaked inside (I'm guessing sunroof) from being parked outside for the last 4 weeks_

The day before the battery went flat (most probs battery drain from water in the car) the immobiliser key stopped working, no beeps, nothing. I have searched the web and certain people have cured it by recharging the car battery. I have done this, dried the car out, put the battery back on, and ..... nothing. No beeps, lights and dials light up, turn the key and nothing.

Though I want to keep the car reasonably original, I have a feeling that this is going to be a ball ache to sort.

So my questions are, is it a simple thing for an alarm guy to bypass without taking half my car apart? Or does anyone know of a cure to keep it original? I spoke to H&P and 'Jim' wasn't in till next week and I want to get it sorted and get the car undercover ASAP.

Me again!

Hate the new layout; I feel like I have to search for everything rather than just seeing threads develop from one place. I know some says it's easier but hey: IMO.

Check under the dash for the two fuses the immobiliser system has (should be two 3 amp) - they were either installed under the column or in the fuse box under the front lid depending on who fitted it (I used both locations alternately when I fitted them for some reason wink ) occasionally a fuse or connector can get kicked out when you get in the car. Check both connector blocks and the fuse condition. Remove the fuses if all is well; place the immobiliser key in the receptacle and refit the fuses - I have woken the unit up a few times that way.

Removing the unit is simple (as long as you have the wiring diagram wink ) and if you DIY will only cost you time. If its not an insurance necessity then get it gone.

You can see all the Porsche threads in the same place, just as before. smile

1. Make sure all of the subforums in the Porsche section are added to your favourites (go to 'My Preferences') or alternatively click 'view all forums'.
2. Click on the 'Porsche' category heading.

All threads in all of the Porsche subforums will be listed together, just like before. smile

POPE. If I won the lottery, could I employ you full time to service and care for my 911?

Thanks matey, I'll have a dig around. At least the lights and everything else now are lighting up. A couple of days ago, not even the damn lights were working. Bloody sunroof seals ... or whatever let the water in. frown
