996 turbo engine life BANG!!!!
Discussion
Hi my 996tt has 73000 still goes and looks perfect problem is maintenance costs like Tyres, radiators, heat shields ,top mounts, I think these cars need to be driven regularly to keep them running sweet sometimes low mileage cars can have problems, had my turbo for 6 1/2 years now and still love it.

Its a modern German engine, run for ever, as said previously probably better fettle than a 25k lump used as a weekend toy
You mean its an OLD German engine and will run for ever.MTR
On the point of timing chains I tried to get a warranty from warranty direct, the man came round looked at the car a said my timing chain was a bit noisy so I listened to 8 other 996 tt all sounded the same just like a 911!!! They wanted a letter from Porsche to say it was ok so I didn't bother I was also wondering what it would cost to change the chain anybody?

I think it is a full strip down to do the timing chain, so if you were going to dismantle the engine that far you'd might as well do a full rebuild which is when the cost mounts.Someone like to confirm?
