retrofitting cruise control ?

anyone done it ?

I gather its possible at vastly cheaper prices than walking into OPC and getting them to supply and fit from the techequipment catalogue. I want to do it for my Cayenne but I think the principle is the same for 997's, boxsters etc..

I have a list of parts so far and gather than you need to get some programming done as the final step at your local indy.

Can anyone help any further ?

Sorry I can't help with any tips but I'd be interested in the same. Can't be paying £500 for a retrofit. £200 all in would be more like it.

I too asked and was given the same response, however, if you own a 997 or 987 they will fit it as Porsche supply a retrofit kit - if you have to pick the bits off the shelf to form the kit of parts then they're not interested

aparently it's due to safety, go figure...

IIRC it's about 2 hours to fit and you need to reset the ECU for it to register/recognise the new kit - the loom connector will be present so it's essentially a plug and play job

I think that I would need to do a little more reseach

Sorry, edited to add that cruise control is such a liability for the installer if it were to go wrong

No different to the guy that did your brakes. I'd rather the cruise control goes tits up then the brakes.

I have had both OBC and cruise retro-fitted by Wrightune in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. It was quick and inexpensive, I've had no problems with it at all and they use original parts.

The website tells you prices etc.

It's also dead easy to get to off the M40 or A34.

I had a look at their website and it looks very good but the 987 cruise price is £400 plus vat so I might as well pay £500 at the local OPC.
£300 sounds more like it though as I bet it's just the stalk and screws,the steering column lower and enabling with the pc and the bits are around £100

You used to be able to buy just the stalk, for about £65, until Porsche put a stop to it. Now you have to buy the complete retrofit kit for about £350 (content around £100's worth of parts). They made the stalk an exchange item, so if you have one fail it costs about £65 to replace, but you have to return the old unit, otherwise there is a £200 surcharge.

great minds think alike ... i despatched some emails to breakers last night

that said, they are clever beggars and have probably caught onto the OPC trick


as for DVB, a stalk from them is probably more expensive than a new one !


BTW: there are some 997 stalks on ebay if anyones interested

If you have a Durametric I believe the latest software version will allow you to enable the Cruise once you have fitted the parts.

Probably but if the stalk and steering cowl lower aren't available 2nd hand at a fair cost and Porsche have marked them up it's real hard to save money off OPC fitted price!

No but about 2 years ago OPC Bournemouth was offering retro fit cruise control for £299. Long time ago I know, but if they have kit left over you never know....

You've only just realised this? To be fair you can say this of pretty much any entity in the business of making money. The analogy of bringing food to the restaurant is a valid one really. You're probably better off speaking to indys if you're in a "breaker bits + programming, surely that doesn't cost much?" mindset.

I've had my car since June, bought out of the OPC network, and OPC Swindon have done discounted rates for me on the strength of mentioning Porsche Club membership (actually TIPEC which is still a "Porsche Club" and they've never asked to see a membership number). Obviously I've got no way of knowing whether or not the prices quoted weren't pre-inflated to make the "discounted" rate the same as what you were quoted!

Realistically though they're not going to do it for much less than what their systems says it costs.
