HELP! Cayenne Power Steering failure

Hi all

Have an 04 Cayenne S. Yesterday, there was a groaning noise as soon as the PAS pump was called into action. Topped up the fluid - which was sitting on min but still plenty in the resevoir - and booked in to the local specialist to get it checked.

However, wife has driven it this morning and have now lost power steering completely (after driving 5 or so miles).

I assume it's the pump (rather than the rack) given the nature of the problems - but I assume I will need to get it towed to the garage rather than driving with now power steering???

Any advice appreciated, plus and estimate of cost to replace the pump??

Hi,

There is a 5mm blanking plug (I think 5mm) in side of pump it may of fallen out. Most common fault with the system. not showing as a seperate part on pet system. maybe same as coolant drain plug on 996 models will try and check, if that is in fact your problem.

Being as you later said all the fluid's been lost then don't drive it if possible, running with it dry could cause plenty more harm.

Hi,

When you say it is being towed you mean recovered....right? You should not ever tow an automatic transmission car as it can damage the transmission as internal oil pump is not running...

Hiya. What was it in the end. Sorry long time ago. Just curious as mine done same and I'm just going with the pump. Would love to know where the oil went first as there is no leak. Any how hope u remember lol
