Hello, i'm currently driving my dream car of a 944 Se cabriolet but it is running with a couple of niggley problems, one being when changing gear there is some noise coming from the lever area, mainly changing from 4>5 and back, when the lever is pushed to the far right there is a grinding whiring sound, i think it's going to be the lever pin holding the stick in place (as i gather from researching the prob as much i can)

i just need to know somewhere around the cleveland/teesside area that has dealt with this problem before so they won't be tempted to try and take my eyes out blaming anything from the gearbox to the engine. has anyone else had this prob and how much did it cost to rectify?

Cheers

Dave

There are some bushes at the base of the gearstick that can wear and cause a loose sloppy feeling as well as other problems. The leather boot is held in place by a square plastic frame at the base and is easily lifted up to have a look inside and see if there is something visbly loose.

There is a guide to replacing the boot here:

also, i forgot to mention on the fault of the gear leaver, there is also a bit of vibration when accelarating hard, mainly when the revs go above 4,500-5000 rpm, there is a vibrating noise from the leaver which stops after changing gear when the revs drop, but keep the new gears revs going and the moise will be back.

is this going to be related to the other problem or is this going to be something completely different.

Mine does the same and apparently it's because the torque tube bearings are shot.
