I'm looking at the ads for two 924s which are as follows:
AD1: Red Porsche 924, ideal project, drives ok, Taxed but, Mot just expired. It has failed on a track rod end, brake pads and a cracked windscreen. The bodywork is tatty and will probably need a respray. On the positive side it has an extensive history, recent engine overhaul, the car is solid underneath. All the electrics work including, windows, detatchable roof, pop up lights etc. £400
AD2: Porsche 924 (white) Project car with new full exhaust system, four new tyres, new front discs/pads, new timing belt, new fuel distribution head, new injectors and new battery. There are also new recovered front and back seats plus carpet to be fitted and a new fuel pump (unfitted). The body work is fair. £700
Which on would be the best bet? I'm quite tempted by the first one as it has less miles and until recently was on the road, but I've no idea how much a new windscreen would cost. what do you guys think?
(I would make this a poll but I don't know how)

What do you want it for? A winter project? A track day car? A daily driver to use asap?
Those two both sound a bit unloved and in need of a fair few quid spending on them. Would you not be better getting a better one from the outset? Like this brown one... You could probably do a deal at £850.

But as I said at the start, it all come down to what you plan to do with it / use it for IMHO.

I would like to buy one in better condition, but sadly my budget can't stretch. I'm planning on using it as a second car on a classic insurance policy. Not really thinking about taking it to the track. I like messing about with cars so I don't mind the challenge. 700 would really be my top whack.
I got a quote for a replacement windscreen on my 944 (early cars use a 924 screen) at a little under £200.
Personally I think I'd go for the first car. Brake pads are always going to need doing at some point, you'll have a lovely new windscreen and track rod ends are hardly expensive. Also with it being on the road fairly recently you won't have to worry about potential recommissioning issues.

Both would have to be seen to form a proper opinion on them of course but the first one is cheap with very few problems (from what the ad says) so that's the one I'd choose from the limited information.
Second one could run beautifully with the new parts and the owner doesn't have time to finish it or he's fed up of the nagging from 'er indoors

yep in Fife, I've not bought either car yet, just working out costs
Give big Allan a call - he's done a few of these (i'm quite sure he's still got some parts after one he used to have himself). He's a good man, very fair and respected professional. Euro Windscreens - 0800 174 776 and get to speak to Allan Love.

You'd be better off with an Audi - same engine...
Really?Wow. Which Audi is that then? See I always thought the same engine block was used in the now virtually non existent Audi 100 among a few other cars.
But seeing as the Porsche had a bespoke cylinder head, pistons, rods, crank, fuel injection, inlet, exhaust, sump, front covers, flywheel and clutch assembly (so everything short of the block) it's hardly the same engine is it.
Of course though the Audi 100 is very comparable to a 2 door sports coupe in every other way, I can certainly see your point. Maybe even consider a Volvo as they have wheels too!
