Value of a tiptronic 964
Discussion
Hi All,
Currently having a wee 'moment' on another thread regarding the asking price for this....
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3320053.htm
I suggested that in no way was it worth £19K (nearer £13-£14K I thought) and the PH'r who originally posted it up has had a wee spit of his dummy.
Now don't get me wrong, as an owner, I'd love for 964 prices to rocket but £19K for a tiptronic in a really boring colour combo?? COME ON!!
So I thought I'd fire it out to the respected Beards
in the Porsche forum to see what the general consensus might be...
Thoughts?

In terms of the colour combo, I would say it is a popular choice. Many people like black on black. I dont, but thats just me.
I dont think anyone would deny that a tip is worth less than a manual on a 964, but how much, I'm not sure. There are still plenty of people who swear by them.
And so to the value. I dont think we can comment accurately without inspecting the car as a rough one could be 10k and a minter could be over 20k.
But considering the mileage, spec and apparent good condition at a dealer, it must be worth over 16k?

It's a pretty high spec for that era, not many had A/C and if it works that makes the car a rarity and therefore attractive (to me at any rate). Those wheels look a bit weedy though. A Tip is not for everyone but if it is a really nice car then the price is only £1000 on the strong side in my view.
All good points MTR (and others). Cheers!
If your estimate is circa £16K at a dealer could we assume circa £14K on a Private sale for the car in question?
This guy's asking for £19K for this 'tip' though!
... AND he also reckons my Tahoe C2 (recently resprayed,FSH,engine rebuild, great condition with 120K on the clock) is overvalued at £16K!

Cheers MTR,
So what would you pay for a great condition black/black tiptronic 964 on 16's and a mileage heading towards possible engine-rebuild territory?
I'm not being argumentative Fella...just would like to know if it was YOUR cash, what would you pay?
For me - £14K (however wouldn't buy a 'tip' anyhoo
)

Its not really relevant what I would pay as I wouldnt buy a tip and black is not my preference. Your engine rebuild comment is a leading question unless you have proof? So what would you pay for a great condition black/black tiptronic 964 on 16's and a mileage heading towards possible engine-rebuild territory?

)I personally like the 964 very much and would pay up to 20k for a mint manual Coupe C2.
Not sure how relevant this is though.

Certainly if it's in as good condition as it looks with the A/C working, you'd have to be very lucky to get it for 14k privately. I think that 19k is too much to pay from a dealer, but as a price to start negotiating from it's not too toppy.
So fpr me if it's tip-top, 15.5 privately and 17.5 dealer. But conditiona and history is everything.

19k should buy an exceptional C2 manual, either original with low miles or with major work done recently. A tip car would not interest a majority of C2 manual buyers anyway, but a genuine well cared for tip I would expect to be 2-3k behind in price. Fair value for the car shown I would say 15k private would be doing very well.

Would i or anyone else pay 1k less for even the most amazing tip than the guards red manual minter with about 40k miles on it that went a few weeks back? i dont think so
That's true, but I think that red one was way too cheap, and the fact it went in a few days probably confirms that.IMO it is overpriced.
Take a look at

I don't think there is nearly 5k difference between those cars.
No A/C but the cars that I have seen owned by PC Members tend to be in pretty good nick.
Whatever you do, get the thing inspected.

Those were the days eh.
£20k would get you nothing in the 964 world!
1991 C2 manual, black with light great interior. …. Bought 2006 with 40K miles under her belt .£20k would get you nothing in the 964 world!
£12750.00 from Adrian Crawford . Sold 12 months later to a Porsche Trader for £12500.00 who sold it on for £14K.
Back then a 993 was around £25K if mem serves … Which was about the price of a reasonable condition 964RS.
To my dying day I’ll never see why the standard C2 964 are worth now so much money . I never got on with mine … it was my first Porsche, so maybe I’d bought a bad one .

Could well be the case for most owners.....difference being is that you found out from use, whereas most won't ever know a they don't get bought to be driven - that would be sacrilegious these days. Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
