a cracking 2 weeks of Spyder'ing!!
Discussion
been in and out of London (various routes) about 6 times over the last 3 weeks - put a fair few miles on the Spyder - first (20,000 mile) service being done this week :-) at Reading.
I am loving it - just cannot believe how capable the Spyder is (and I never normally go above 6,000 rpm) - it just begs to be driven every time I get in it - I start off trying to be nice, to drive like a bloke with a beard
but after its warmed up (a good 15 minutes) I just cannot help myself - its addictive!
I have managed a couple of excursions towards the limiter just to see what it can really do - wowwwweeeeeee
The ONLY time I have ever had so much fun was in my 2 M Roadsters - they were BONKERS FUN and I mean BONKERS FUN!
On country roads its fluid, sure-footed and very rewarding - on the motorway it is devastatingly quick - acceleration in any gear apart from 7th is bonkers at the right revs and even in 7th it pulls and pulls and pulls.
Oh and that noise just urges you on - PSE!!!
My OPC experiences have been good (excluding the one that Richard Hated) I really have no complaints at all.

How are you finding the roof in terms of security and general usability?
I'm trying not to buy one of these at the moment - no daily garage access, parked on driveway etc.....the local opc demonstrated how easy it was to slip a hand between the window glass and vinyl....
BUT....
Everytime I see one I seem to be loosing rational thought!!
I'm searching for an 05 997 for around the £27k mark......but at the moment, £35k will buy a 10 plate Spyder with no miles and the DFI motor!!

unless you are a bearded old fart with a pipe and soft shoes - useability is fine -
That'll be me then... but I don't have a beard or a pipe.I maintain that usability is compromised by the wind noise, hood up at motorway outside lane speeds. It is the Spyder's major weak point.
i disagree. it is meant to be compromised.......
If it wasn't loads more people would have bought it and our cars would have depreciated even more. I am happy that as it is, spyders are rare, recognisably different and super desirable..
as for being common, that's what boxsters are for.
I am of 2 thoughts whether to classify the cayman R within the cayman and cayman S bucket.... it prolly is in the same category

But I guess I am used to soft-tops and wind on the scalp driving noisy driving - but I would say its a weak point only if you are an . . . . . fart . . . . . . slippers . . . . . pipe . . . . . hearing-aid . . . . .etc etc

in 20,000 miles I have only seen one other Spyder on the road!If it wasn't loads more people would have bought it and our cars would have depreciated even more. I am happy that as it is, spyders are rare, recognisably different and super desirable..

I do agree with you khooni (and, dare I say, khushi) to a large extent - the compromise is part of the appeal.
A couple of weekends ago my wife and I went to visit friends in Scotland. I have no doubt that if I still had my 911 we would have gone in that. We did about 650 miles from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. As it was, we went in my BMW instead and cruise controlled our way up and down the motorway.
To say that the Spyder is a bit disappointing as a motorway car is possibly a bit of an unfair criticism - that's not why I bought it and not what I generally use it for anyway. The other stuff it does rather well
