After 2 months off the road, the boys at RPM Technik Porsche Specialists in Cheddington have worked their magic again and managed to bring my Boxster S back from close to death.

Around 2 months ago she starting stalling, spluttering, and I feared the worst. They diagnosed a fault with the DME control unit (the ECU), which is a rare but not unheard-of problem. I read through numerous forums, with mixed opinions on what could be done.

After numerous attempts to fix the ECU by various specialists it was dead. I didn't really fancy a new one at £1,200 + VAT. So RPM set about sourcing a refurb'd part. We then had to get the codes from Porsche, to re-code the DME, the car, the keys to all work together. And it worked!

The refurb DME was off the same model and age of car, so I think that helped. I don't think you could fit a 2700cc DME to a 3200cc car without making lots of adjustments to the timings.

If you face a similar problem, then I strong recommend giving the guys at RPM a call.

So, with a new ECU, new front control arms on the suspension, the recent custom-made loud exhaust (sounds incredible), new brakes, new tyres... its just about perfect!

Yes, I know its just a humble 2001 Boxster S, but I love it. The speed you can take through the bends is just incredible. So now the old 911 is now wrapped up in the garage for the winter, the 968 is in bits, I've fallen in love with the Boxster again!

Good to hear Mat,
so what was the saving over just buying a new DME?

Hi, the ecu are the same for the boxster but when coding you just select the engine size 2700 or 3200.
