Replaced GT3 with 964RS--The story so far
Discussion
Bought it in Barcelona and drove it back 1006 miles in 17hrs.Then decided that a good svs & check were reqd.It had just had a £10k engine rebuild.
Part one consisted of a major annual service [24,000miles] and a general health check. Andy Fearns did a thorough job of unearthing a few items that reqd attention and sorted then nicely.Rebuilt LSD, front susp reqd attention etc.
1st power run produced a dissapointing 281 BHP but I took it and used on the 964 Devon weekend anyway.
Now working on cosmetics, seat backs painted Indischrot, wheels had small cracks welded, refurbing wheels in anthracite with red detailing.
Part 2 consists of interogating chip/ecu, fitting cat bypass, new lambda probe, dyno run & set up to suit.
The car had developed an air leak at the inlet manifold hence weak running, bad idle etc. Andy fixed this and next power run produced 288 BHP. Next up will be cat bypass and chip to suit the hot air etc. Here's hoping for 300 BHP by end of today ??
Some more minor cosmetics to do and it will be ready.
Am I sorry I swapped from a GT3, no I have an equally rare car, £30k in my pocket and use it more because I am less concerned about mileage, stone rash etc.

Dunno, the merkin maniac will have to pipe up. I'd be surprised if they're standard injectors. I'd check the dyno if they are. You can upgrade to 944 Turbo injectors or poss 993 ones; Motec is used because the motronic can't fire the 944 Turbo ones, IIRC. The expense in Motec is really the mapping time - unique to each car and quite involved. The other main expense is the 6 new injectors, loom, lambda etc.
Murray,
Are you popping over to Bicester on sat then? If so, I'll see you there. Andy's finishing some fettling on mine right now (964). I reckon a Motec M600 can be fitted and mapped (assuming you have a good series of base maps) and can source some 'cheap' bosch greens for about £3k. However, as Dom says, a lot of time goes into the maps specific to each engine.
Alan,
Is your car still with Andy then? It was there two/three weeks ago when I last saw Mr. Fearns....

What type of cams are they, and what sort of spec are they (duration, overlap, etc.)?
As I've said before, haven't got a clue. Work done by RS Tuning in der Vaterland in '96.
To be perfectly honest, I don't care, as long as it goes and can spank GT3 Cup Cars, I'm happy!!

The car is back for the planned 2nd stage. I took it away for the Devon 964 weekend. Andy is a sterling chap and look forward to tommorrows conversation, hopefully he will have found more ponies.
He started it up for me today...Cat bypass, Cup rear pipe, drilled air box, sounds like ripping calico. Pure bliss. This car brings the hooligan out in me.

Just returned from AMd. The bad news is that the fine German technician who installed the hot wire in 1994 was so conscientious that he bonded the chip into the ECU PCB ! So Andy was therefore unable to extract it to interrogate it's settings/properties etc.
The good news is that even with this chip and now de-cat'd it now pushes 303.6 BHP at 6,259 rpm ! with 275.8 lb ft of Torque at 4,982 rpm . Rounded up of course to
304 BHP and 276 Lb ft I'm properly pleased at this.
The car according to the dyno plot is making over 300 BHP from 5,700 to 7,100 RPM and it makes 260 BHP at 4,900 RPM.
All in all not a bad result, pity about the chip and pity about needing 2 lots of dyno work because of the air leak on the inlet side.
