almost to the point of selling.

I love my car, the whole ownership experience, but come on;

Sorry Sir, your MPS2 are N1 on the front and N2 on the rear. You will need to new front tyres at 282ea. Your rear discs and pads, whilst still serviceable, need replacing also before we can renew your warranty.

How much? 1694.00

Tyres: 190.00 each from my tyre man - 92.00 cheaper
Disc/pads: after a brief 'chat' with the service manager, will let me off with them.

COME ON! I know everyones got to earn, but 100.00 profit on a F'in tyre!! Brakes that aren't due to be replaced, having to be replaced at a cost of over 900.00 ??

Honestly, no wonder people would rather use Indy's rather than Main Dealers. If I was minted (or a fool - who are easily parted with their money) I may well have just said to charge on, lining their pockets with yet more ££££ of undeserving hard earned.

The red wine on Tuesday, but not that bloody good!

If they were fairer and charged prices more in line with REALITY maybe people would be more inclined to use them for sundries such as tyres etc.

Thank you. Over and out. shout

I would wager that the minority challenge this type of pressured up-selling.

I best most respond with 'When will it be ready?'.

Nice work if you can get it I suppose.

i dont understand this. i though tyres, pads and discs, as consumables, are not warrantied items? i.e. if during a service or any other work under warranty my tyres, pads and discs need replacing then I assume I will have to pay for them.

if this is the case then how can fresh pads/discs/tyres be pre-requisites for renewing the warranty?

+1 I don't get it either and think if you took it to court you would win.

when has tyres every been a warranty issue, it's crazy that some OPC are acting like this.

I guess the justification is that the car has to be deemed 'safe'?

They're only thinking of you and your family.biggrin

Totally MTR.

I work in the motortrade and see invoices for what Joe Bloggs have been charged from dealers. It's bonkers. Unfortunately people get led into a false sense of security when it's a big name across the door.

If a small garage like ours did this, it would be in the papers.

Guys, it's bonkers. It's pure unadulterate pressure sell-up. Nothing more. It really has left a sour taste in my mouth and feel almost bullied into spending money as they know you almost 'need' the warranty. These cars cannot be enjoyed without it and they are just coining in on it.

Wonder if I can claim for worn tyres if they are SO interest in them in their 111 check smile

For me the OPCs (or at least most of them) are the only bad thing about Porsche.

I had pretty much exactly the same thing when I renewed.

£770 for a front disc skim and new pads, or £880 for new discs and pads. I said (on the phone) that I'd go for the new ones, provided I could take away the old ones when I picked the car up. They were fine with that, but the old parts went "missing" that night. Apparently the cleaner must have thrown them out.

I should have pushed it more, but the dealer principal didn't seem interested in that or any of my other problems. Pah. Thanks and goodbye, Reading.

Mike at Sports & Classic and the Ninemeister crowd get my business now.

Sorry I dont see the big deal . They are going to warranty a high performance , very expensive car . Surely they can insist on correct tyres and good pads ?
Get them fitted ( tyres , pads etc ) at an indy ( keep the old tyres and pads if they are still good for use later ) . Job done .
Lifes too short , you own a car many can only dream of be happy matey thumbup

I only use opc JUST to get the stamps done and warranty , everything else goes to indies .
Except the 980 , that ONLY goes to Reading .

My intentions were to take the car to local guy for tyres and run it back. 100miles worth of arsing around that I can ill afford at the minute. Problem is, it's snowed overnight. Errrrrr.

Btw, I was told, initially, if I took the car away, it would really need another 111 point inspection when it was returned.

Could they make it anymore difficult?

You, me, a trolley jack and some axle stands could make a trip into the city wink

TBH Stevie, when I first read the post I wasn't really surprised that they charge 100 quid extra for a tyre but I dont get the bit about the discs, they're either F'd up or they aren't, why would they change their mind!

It is poor that they would want to do another 111 point check for something that would take a minute to verify that you had fitted the correct tyres (and discs), yes, they have to make money but FFS, it's just a poor way to deal with a customer.

Who is the OPC? We should have an ongoing list of the "good" and recommended OPC's

I know the years going quick but is it April 1st already ?

My bmw dealer quoted me £264 for a fitted rear tyre for my k1300r. The following weekend i took the wheel on its own down to my local garage and got the same tyre fitted £100 cheaper.

With regards to car tyres go anywhere but your main dealer, you'll be quids in

the above is all true - HOWEVER - we have been using ProTyre for many years - they changed the rear tyres but could not supply them (couldnt get them but I could!!!!) and they obviously balanced them - they could not balance them properly even after 2 goes - lots of vibrations - they were adamant that their machinery was perfect - got them balanced at OPC Reading instead - PERFECT!!!

btw - the wheels are perfect!

You don't have to use an OPC for tyres or brakes. Get the tyres at your preferred tyre fitter and renew the warranty-and never go back to that OPC. Find one who is more pragmatic about these things.
