Well, after years of reading about various cars (Astons, 997.2 GT3s, Lotus, etc etc) and asking owners annoying obvious questions, I finally settled on a low mileage 993 Turbo to step away from my E36 M3 from. I really wanted a GT3 but was unsettled by all the potential mechanical issues 'designed' into the car as I would put it. Centerlock wheels that are more about esthetics then function and glued in coolant hoses, etc. Of course I'm sure now I'll be plagued with the typical air-cooled turbo issues but anyway.

Not as much steering or throttle finesse as the M3 but loads more grip and acceleration. Fantastic functional interior, lovely simple controls but everything I need. A key element to me was the size of the car. All the new cars are just too wide for living in a busy city.

It took me awhile to get used to the heavier steering, heavier clutch, heavier brake pedal but ultra sensitive gas pedal! I've not even come close to the handling limits and don't think I want to but had a little of the turbo acceleration and it is properly manic. Suspension is a bit harsh but the chassis holds up to it extremely well.

I'll try to take some photos of my own. Above is just one of the sellers photos. Let's see if I can hold this for 15 plus years like the M3!

Very very nice!thumbup

It looks a little higher than UK spec? Is that the case with the US 993 Turbos?

Molly I believe you are correct. It is something like 3 centimeters or so higher iirc. It scrapes less then the M3 which is good for now! Or rather is doesn't scrap at all. Not yet anyway.

My personal photos stink due to poor lighting and not a real flash.

Sellers link (while it lasts).

The low miles could be a cause for concern but Canepa is a Porsche expert and gave it a full look over. If you are ever near Santa Cruz his museum is one of the best. Interestingly they had a Bugatti EB110 running in the garage but taken all apart. Will be interesting to see if it is something he is selling or just repairing for someone. Drove up HWY 1 but didn't have a camera! Doah!

I'd love to have an aftermarket exhaust but keeping stock is probably all I need. It's much more car than I can handle most likely wink I hope to keep the miles low since I don't require a daily driver. I may consider snow tires for the mountains though!

Looks fantastic but if you were contemplating any mods I would consider the suspension. The ride hide looks wrong to my eyes - maybe just used to Euro spec. You can always revert back to the original suspension, but KW V3 or Bilstein PSS-9s are both completely adjustable and will allow you to tailor the height as required. Real improvement over stock IMO and the damper adjust great for the track.

I've got the geo specs and interested if there is any comments towards how if at all it would effect how the car handles noticeably.

Measurement - L/R degrees

Front:

Camber -.3/-.3
Caster 5.3/5.4
Toe .07/.07
SAI 19.1/18.6
Included Angle 18.9/18.2
Turning Angle Diff. -1.17 -.17/SAME

Cross camber .1
Cross Caster -.1
Cross SAI .6
Total Toe .14

Rear:

Camber -1.4/-1.3

From the print out everything is within ranges for this car. Thanks for any insight. i'm a newbie.

Nice purchase.

More steering precision can easily be achieved with uprated front lower A arm bushes and GT2 Evo front inner toe rods. Thos 2 mods will remove a fair amount of slop.

Not as much steering finess???. You must be joking! Porsche have the best steering out there and feedback...definitely get it re-aligned and the suspension adjusted, looks like your car is off. Much better than a M3 once properly set up.

It's 4x4 - that numbs it. The geo setup is above. I'm not saying the steering is bad just not as pleasing to me as the old e36 M3. But then I'm not pushing it and I'm not used to it like my old car. At the 3yr/1000 mile service I will take a closer look at everything. Perhaps do the 15,000 mile service too. I'll be expecting sticker shock eek

It's on stilts but I don't scrape rolleyes But yes it does look a bit odd from the sides admittedly.

Canepa? Read some interesting stories about him online. The prices on that site are 'strong'
