Hi, probably a silly question but here goes. I have bought a Cayman that is supposed to have cruise control on it but can not get it to work, so finally got the manual out and it looks like it is supposed to have a switch on the end of the stick, can anyone confirm this for me please?

Thanks Alan

Thanks, so have been sold with something it has not got, so is the stick just to control the computer then?

Would it be an expensive job to have the cruise control fitted?

You sure you're not messing about with the stick to control the dash info panel? This stick is on the left.

Cruise control stick is on the right and has a button that you press in to activate it (green speedo sign illuminates on the dash), though in my erperience you seem to have to push the stick forward or back (set speed up or down) to actually get it to engage.

This is the stick you should have if you have cruise control fitted:

Thanks for reply, just checked and you are spot on, the stick I have is on the left not the right and does not have the same symbols that you have shown. Really ticked off now as I did not want a car without it, I even have it on my van. I wanted a manual box for the fun element but it I like cruise for when you sit on the dreaded motorway.

So is it even possible to get fitted now?

It can be fitted by a dealer for around £400.

I had it done by Swindon OPC before I picked my car up.

Sounds like you should go back to the seller and get them to fit it for you.

Who informed you that it had cruise control fitted? If it was a dealer then you have a good case for complaint.

Thanks for replies, am waiting for the dealer to call me back, what is the difference between having it fitted at a non OPC? just a bit funny about having major things tampered with by others.

It was the salesman and the sales manager, and it is in the advert. I think they must have thought the computer stick was cruise, I must admit being my first Porsche the stick does look similar to what I have had on my previous vehicles.

blimey - what is it with complaining about absolutely bloody everything FFS - no wonder Porsche owners are labelled as a complete bunch of pipe-smoking, bearded, slipper-wearing wker-knobs!!!

It didnt have it - you say that the poor salesman said it did - so lets take em to the fking cleaners - YOU presumably drove the car before buying it - SURELY you would have noticed it then - or were you utilising "The Force" during the test drive????

When I bought my car - it had 8mm of tread on each tyre - 8 months later they are balder than I am - do you think I have a case for compensation?

Get it retro-fitted - keep smiling - dont listen to the "dealer-haters" - enjoy your lovely car and move on!

Someone bought a car in good faith that was not as described - a complaint is surely in order and your rant is bafflingly defensive. It isn't as if he was saying to try to sue the arse out of them for punitive compensation after all. I would say that under the circumstances the dealer should be in the frame for the cost of the retrofit (as a minimum split the difference) or the buyer ought to be entitled to a refund (if they wish to go that route). To blame the buyer for not individually inspecting every detail against the specification sheet may or may not be a defence, but it would certainly be one in bad faith if it were.

Obviously the first step should be a slightly terse but conciliatory conversation with the dealer in question though.

Complaining for the sake of it is not something I engage in. If, however, you are sold something by an 'expert' that then turns outr to be not as described, you have every right to seek recompense. I doubt you would turn a blind eye if something similar had happened when you purchased your Spyder smile

Utter horsest. If Henry sells me a GT3 unseen but it turns out to be a Boxster would it be fair for him to tell me not to pay heed to the 'dealer haters' and just get on with driving it?

The goods were misrepresented and the dealer is legally bound to put it right and if they're half decent I'm sure they will. Telling people, over and over and over again to just 'enjoy' their cars, isn't terribly helpful - of course an enthusiast's car is for enjoyment, but the OP will be doing some motorway miles and so cruise seems like a fair request, especially when it's been paid for!

Nice to see a little balance on here. My car has cruise control but I certainly did not check where the lever was or try it on the test drive, I had more important things on my mind to check up on. I would pay £400 to have it retro fitted and I'm sure that the dealer will help with this cost.

Hi mate, don't have a problem with the dealer in question at all, they are probably the nicest bunch of car salesmen that I have ever come across and don't think for a minute that it is deliberate, they are not an OPC.

Yes I did take it for a test drive but have to admit the last thing on my mind was trying out the cruise control and I did not take it up the motorway for the test drive either, as I said in my previous post I can quite understand how they thought the computer control lever was cruise control as I did but this does not take away from the fact that it is something I wanted on the car. Out of interest, how many people test drive a Porsche and try out the cruise?

Persoanlly, I'd ask them to retro fit it - it's an easy job

I would have done but mine doesn't have it - I did try it on the daily smoker as it was something I was looking for

I still need to get it fitted to the 911...

If it's any consolation mine has cruise, was listed as having cruise, and I only found out how to use it (or that it was actually there) after I'd bought it. So had it not been I'd be in exactly the same position as you.

Same goes for the telephone mobule.

Anyone suggesting "thems the breaks" when it comes to getting something that is manifestly different to that which was advertised is, as said already, being bafflingly defensive of dealers. The ad listed cruise control, the car doesn't have it - pure and simple. Any retrofitting done should be at the dealers expense.

Now that raises another question, hands free, what is the best one to get fitted but think I shold start a new thread for that one (but I knew it had not got this)

Trying the cruise out on the cars I tested was one of my priorities. Funnily enough five out of six with it were inoperative.
( not being smart, just got bad feet)tip and cruise drives it for me.
