Im after my 2nd porsche and wanted some guidance, my last was a '89 3.2 G50 model.

Im looking at either a Boxster S or 993/996? Im aiming to spend £25-35k, it will be second car not a daily driver. What your opinion? Pro/Cons

Are there any good independant dealers in around N London I can visit to try both?

cheers

Blimey, it's a hard one, all depends on what you want.
1/If you want the roof down go BoxterS, fab. car & you can afford a newer car.
2/ If can live with the interior & quirks the 993 is a great drive, although it will be older with more issues.
3/ An early 996 C2 with sports pack is very tempting & a better all rounder.
There is an argument for each but only you know what your priorities are.
If it was my dosh I would go for a BoxterS at that price point & get a facelift 996 as my next step, but thats me, others will say otherwise !!

I went from a G50 3.2 to an early 993 C2, which was right at the top of my budget at the time.

I`ve still got it and I prefer it to either the 996 or Boxster, but then I`m biased.

Try them all, but its air over water everytime for me!

Good luck

thanks, usually I've got a got idea about what I'd pick just cant decide, I'm going to get a test drive in a Boxter S, see if that hit the spot.

when I had my 3.2 I test drove quite a few cars before selling to finance a house move, nothing got close to the feel /drive only thing I didn't go overboard was the grearbox which was a bit imprecise

I'm not going to do many miles 5-6k per year, I'd like something free of too many big bills excluding the usual servicing and consumeables

Boxster S is as quick as a 272 BHP 993 and the gear box is a lot sweeter. Having owned both in succession my choice would be 993. The extra seats are usefull, and like the best looking women, a few flaws highlight the beauty in all areas - this is the 993's forte.

A 993 is a rights of passage car, everyone should own one at some point. Boxster S - remarcable as it is - is a little too accomplished and blander.

The importance of costs / warrantee / servicing / modernity etc etc only you can decide on but 993 are not actually expensive cars to run at all, but boxsters are cheeper still

Even if that 'point' is only a few weeks before fireballing it off a roundabout?

My 993 didn't burst in to flames it just went 2 dimensional after a slight spin and roll :-)

Much like this chaps 993TT

True. Difficult to get seats etc to burn when they are soaking wet.
