I pass a black, gen 2 997 C2 on my way to work. You really don't see many standard, facelift Carrera's. Performance wise, at least on paper, there is barely anything in it between this an d an S. The 08 cars have the better looking rear lights and the DFI engines which apparently resolve the engine issues that blight the reputation of earlier 997's.

I was in an OPC recently and they have a used 08 model year, 12k Cab up at £46k. I really think this is incredible value and shows how depreciation has really caught up with previously unassailable 911 residuals.

I am seriously tempted by one of these, yet they seem completely overlooked in favour of the S. This doesn't happen to the same degree with the Boxster either?

Lower car tax
Lower weight
Superior 18" wheels (better handling, better comfort)
Lower mpg

Better car than the 997.1S by some margin in my view. And more fun than the 997.2S according to a number of reviewers.

Manual and a cab. I know many despise the notion of a 911 cab. I've had two 997 cabs on loan and I found them both largely scuttle shake free. The £46k car is in the dealer network. If it was black/black I may have bought it. Its got the potential to be a timeless car and largely all the 911 I'd ever need.

I'm still curious as to why the base car is so unloved next to the S.

I'm in the market to buy a Gen2 and I'm looking at both C2 and C2S. As stated above, there are some benefits with a C2 (lower road tax mainly). They don't look good on 18" wheels in my opinion, but most have 19s anyway. The spec difference between a C2 and C2S for Gen 2 cars is significantly less than Gen 1 and the Gen 2 C2 is about as fast as a Gen 1 C2S. Unloved? The prices are not much lower - if you see a cheap Gen 2 C2, please let me know!
