Has anybody had a PPI inspection done on a car at an OPC?

Seems like there are tales of both good and not-so-good levels of service and prep from differing dealers, so I'm curious to the merits of having a car inspected prior to purchase?

Will the OPC take the stance that their 111 pt check is the reference point in terms of prep and sale standards?

Perhaps seems a little pointless to pay for an additional inspection, but with the 2 year warranty it's a good opportunity to make sure all advised remedial works are completed?

Perhaps I'm a little cynical, but where margins and hitting targets are concerned I can't imagine all dealers will put right all marginal inspection elements if they don't need to!

Personally I wouldn't bother, worst case scenario is you buy from a rubbish OPC who don't give two hoots and in that case you take it to one that does and use the warranty with them instead. smile

I can see why people might still want to, but for me I've enough trust (maybe foolishly placed?) that I felt comfortable buying mine from an OPC without another inspection.

It will be fine at the OPC.

My only advice would be for a turbo car to have a ppi outside the OPC first.

I would have thought that if you came across as a serious buyer they would present the car with the PPI checklist to 'help you make a decision'. OPC would have to stand behind a warranty for major defects, but it is useful to know what things will 'need doing soon'. Definitely would not expect to pay for it though. The point is for a PPI is to be independent. So if you feel you need more comfort you should get a company like Peter Morgan involved.

I didn't bother when I bought my Cayman from them - their cars are prepared to very high standards and the OPC warranty is as good as you get.

However, the 111-point check doesn't look for signs of crash repair. I was told that if the repair was done by a Porsche bodyshop, their mechanics wouldn't be able to tell so they don't look for it as they aren't trained crash-inspectors.

An independant check, such as Peter Morgan will be more thorough in that area - checking under carpets, paint depths etc etc.

It's advisable as specialists like Peter Morgan noted above cover more points which includes feedback from a test drive.
