Hi folks,
I'm new on this forum but wondered if anyone could help me. I'm interested in buying a RUF 964 BTR 3.8 or RCT 3.6 narrow body. Does anyone have any experience of these cars or failing that any RUF model. The things I'm not sure about are ease of servicing, availability and cost of parts, reliability, whether anyone will insure me and what the general ownership experience is like.
My biggest fear is knowing how expensive these cars were brand new (£100,000K+), what the costs will be when something goes wrong. I know its not going to be cheap but if they are stupidly expensive to run ie Ferrari/Lamborghini running costs I might have to rethink.
I hope you can help me or point me in the right direction. Many thanks in advance.
Cheers
Craig.

Try www.rennlist.com they have a good forum and one for 964s as well.
I have found a really rather beautiful RUF RCT
http://tinyurl.com/2ef97
Things to look out for and think about.
If you want to buy a car with a RUF vin you will have to pay a lot more than a car which has been converted, however imho this is the better option:
1) RUF vin built cars are better built, therefore less is likely break in the long term, especially in the 964 which is a hewn out of stone.
2) The more expensive RUF vin cars have been probably better looked after by people who will keep up with servicing etc
3) Many 964 porsches i have seen, especially on mobile.de, have not just RUF parts but also Gemballa and other tuners, this makes the car a real headache if you are trying to sort out what it "is"
RUF Vin cars can be found by looking for WO instead of WP on the vin.
Servicing, for a 964 RUF will i expect be very close to that of a 964 turbo, no joke, our CTR and R Turbo have the same servicing interval and periods as their porker counter parts.
Insurance though is the only main hassle, and one we have been having problems with recently though, so that is what i would research and check quite thoroughly into.
all the best

Adam,
Just make sure you know what attends you know where next time...![]()
(Don't forget to wear white socks and loafers, for the full Roeser effect.)
And on the car stereo play a tape on a continuous loop that says in a pornstar accent, "Here at Ruf, we are fools for cars".
That 964 is 39k, it does look like it is in good nick however the mileage is not stated, and it is a leftie.
But if the car is RUF vin, with a good number of miles and full service etc, then i would say a very good price.
It is very tough to value converted cars, but i would say they command a little above the equivalent porsche model that the conversion was based on, however at the end of the day it all comes down to condition etc
best wishes
