Ok so how do you spend christmas eve and a couple of evenings before....changing your air con condensors of course! Couple of rusty screws holding the bumper in place meant the job took longer than it should have. gave the radiators a blow out with compressed air and vacuum and then given a coat of silver paint. Cleaned up some areas which were dirty such as the plastics and then sprayed some bits which were a bit rusty. Good to find that it was all orginial under the bumper though which no damage or anything.
Here are some pics

Can you guess which one has been cleaned and which one hasn't

Also fitted a new desiccator and now just need to get the whole system regassed. I can't believe on the 991 the condensors are still uncovered. Im going to be fitting some black mesh behind the grilles in the new year.

Happy Christmas everyone

Went for an extended drive supposedly only picking up a few last minute bits and pieces, then washed the car.

Depending how it goes with the MIL tomorrow, I may clean it again then wink

I do think the reason that Porsche haven't changed the design is that its simply not that big an issue. The whole phenomenon of a 996 being worth 2p unless its had new rads lately is a great example of a very small issue being unnecessarily blown up into something massive by the internet - when in reality the vast majority of 9x6/9x7s will happily go through life with no maintenance/cleaning or issues with the radiators.

IMO you're as likely to cause issues and hairline cracks by unnecessarily moving the radiators and pipework than you are to have issues with stones and/or corrosion.

Remember when you have the bumper off again for the mesh fitting to drill some holes in the rear of these ducts so that you can hose out the crap that gets past the mesh - thus keeping the new condensors in tip top condition cool

Have you ever thought of having a clearout? I can see a homeless persons foot sticking out from under one pile of ccensoredp

My workshop has to be spotless before I start any work - what with me being OCD and all.
