I looked at a 993 Targa 2 years ago. I seem to spend to much time looking but this got me thinking.

Cars that haven't sold....

http://pistonheads.com/sales/2334818.htm
This is what I looked at Dec 09

http://www.specialistcarsltd.co.uk/item/126/catid/...
This has been for sale for 2 years I think.

http://pistonheads.com/sales/2055833.htm
over a year.

How can dealers just sit on that much money for sooooo long?

The most be others that I haven't looked at.

Just a thought.

Low interest rates and these are cars that (allegedly) don't depreciate. Still, more like running a car museum than a business.

Some pretty cars there, but the problem may lie in the fact that people don't have that much spare money lying around to spend on a sports car, let alone £120,000 for a 993 yikes

was that flatnose not originally listed for c 99k? if so, then they reduced price, presumably to shift it ...
I am sure somebody with a better memory than me will be along shortly

Maybe they're on SOR? A CSL I looked at in March 2010 was still at the same dealer on SOR for the same (over)price 18 months later, and would never sell at that price because it was in ropey condition.

Its not just Porsche as I have been watching Jeep Wranglers at the main dealers and although cheap, still not cheap enough for me, but they are just sitting there for months. They even put the prices up when the latest 2012 model came out.

I'm wondering if it's worth a very cheeky offer to take one off their hands.

Yes it was up for 99K. Dumped 30K off the price.
This was when the euro was at 1 to 1.02 now 1.13 to the pound.
if its not worth 69K in europe then it must be worth 50K to sell at 59K IMHO.

Those cars must be SOR. You could turn that money round every single month if you buy right and in 2 years earn 25 times what just the one sale would make you. An inflated margin means abolutely zilch compared to throughput.

10 years ! That's has to be in the record books.
How could you leave you car with a garage for 10 years. What do you phone then once a month to see how's the sale of your car? Mad that's all I can say.

Christmas over just the new year now.

The red Ruf flatnose was in SCOM in 2001 when I bought my first Porsche from them . It is a stunning car and I've never understood why it hasn't sold ( or does it get sold and bought back later ) . It's just had a £20k price drop ...but I just don't like the flatnose .

Most of the long termers will be SOR.

The dealer has nothing to lose and if the car sells for an inflated price then it's a welcome commission.

IMHO it doesn't say a lot for the dealer as they should be giving more realistic advice to the owner.
Unless of course they sold him the car in the first place wink

I'm not so impressed with alot of the dealers out there, the more well known they think they are, the better they believe they are...... or the more thay assume they can charge than others.

Malton have a 993 for sale that is at least 3.5K over what its worth with a history that has a gap of something like 6 or 7 years in it between services, yet they can't think this is important because its still for sale overpriced IMO. Its not just Malton though, PS has sometimes some rather mundane cars at silly high prices.

People buy from places like this because they assume they are getting the best, that is not always the case ..... sometimes (and especially for the more ordinary stuff) they may just be paying more.

The first car on the list by the way is SOR. Most of that garages cars are sold this way.

Sambaman coming on here bangin on about SCOM in 48 point bold capitalised Helvetica every other day probably helped a bit too. smile

To be fair, I think SCOM have been relegated slightly. Their prices are still stupid but other suspects are now a fair bit worse.

And what qualifies you as a market expert??

Quite simple, if you dont like the price, dont buy it!
