Clonk when in reverse
Discussion
My 964T does this and it's the limited slip diff.
Not sure if Boxsters have them though?
Like you say, there's a clonking from the rear when reversing on full lock. I get a bit of wheel-hop too. This is a rear wheel skipping due to everything winding up a bit at the rear.
All of this is perfectly normal. I just reverse on a wider arc to avoid it.
If your Boxster doesn't have a LSD then I've just wasted 30 seconds of your life, sorry.

+1 Wheel hop - the tyre sidewalls do't flex much so the tyre with the least grip loses contact on full lock and releases its built-up forces with a thud/clunk/bump
Another option: Early cars didn't have pad shims in the brake calipers - this means sometimes the pads 'clonk' up or down after a direction of travel change conincides with a brake application
