Probably a daft question but when I get my Cayman out of the drive I have to put the steering on full lock, obviously only going slowly and the noise from the tyres scrubbing during the turn is terrible, turn it back a fraction and it goes, why is this?

Unless you have aftermarket wheels and/or suspension it's not the tyres scrubbing, but the sound of the power steering pump working its knackers off against the rack which has reached it's end stop. It's never good to be in that situation so always back it off from the end of the travel, even if just a tiny fraction.

I find tyre scrub exists in this situation too. If it is wet the tyres skip sideways significantly on wet tarmac and especially white lines. Deffo NOT the rack.
Just the price you pay for a tight lock and a light front...................

Actually I think it is the tyres scrubbing - most Porsches do it on full lock at low speeds. Price they pay for tyre width and geo. But advice above regarding full lock is good.

That is interesting, I did wonder if there was something happening to the wheels, I remember years ago something similar and I am sure there was a word apart from "ackerman" for it but could not think of it so the easiest way of describing it was the tyres scrubbung.
