Seriously thinking about getting the centre console painted in either bashalt black to match the exterior, or think it's called piano black, (non metallic with deep shine), to brighten up the interior a little!
Here's a picture of my interior

And here's a picture of a painted console looking very nice, albeit in blue - (apologies if it's anyone's car on here and I've infringed your copyright smile)

Have any fellow PH'rs had this modification done? If so can anyone give me some guidance as to what I should be expecting to pay for this doing?
Please feel free to post pics if you have!
Finally, had the centre console out to fit new carbon gear knob and handbrake in my previous 996 C2 but that was a manual. As you see from the picture of mine above Turbo is tiptronic. Anyone know how how to remove tip gear knob? Presume there's a retaining nut/screw somewhere?

I had my centre console and seat backs painted body colour (Lapis Blue)and although I was (and still am)delighted with the final finish and look although it did take the paintshop a couple of attempts before the paint 'took'.

Firstly, when refitting the console the guy fitting it wiped soome finger prints off of it and a lump of the paint peeled off. frown Then after that was corrected I noticed that some of the paint on the drivers seat had 'blown'. Back it went and when I went to pick the car up, just before driving off, I noticed the back of the passenger seat had blown as well and there was a crack on the console. furious

This was all corrected and it has been fine since. Apparently there is some type of plastic coating on the seat backs and console that must be completely removed in order for the paint to adhere properly. Probably basic stuff but it seemed to catch the bodyshop out and they were the ones who said they could do the job. Everything was covered by the original price quoted so it was only the inconvenience of not having my car that bothered me.

With yours being a Turbo, check that none of the bits you want painted are covered in leather, which would need to be removed first. If it is, it might be cheaper to buy a plain black (or a previously painted) one.

On the manual version there are 4 painted pieces. The main console, the ashtray housing with electric window buttons, the flip-top ashtray and the side piece to fit around the parking brake. The rest of the the unpainted or trimmed bits can be reused from the original console.

Dont whatever you do enquire about the price of a new pre-painted set from your OPC yikes

No intention whatsoever of doing that David smile If cost proves prohibitive then I won't do it!

If you're trying to point me in the direction of the GT silver centre console at £528 thanks but no thanks!
My thinking was having my existing one painted had got to be much cheaper than that?

The cost of just having the console stripped and painted shouldn't be too bad. I had my seat backs, rear bumper and rear spoiler centre section painted along with the console so I don't know the individual cost for the console. All I wanted to do with my previous post was to point out that you need to ensure your selected bodyshop remove all coatings from the console before repainting. It will look good once it's done.

Thanks Clive for your constructive advice. My previous post quoted above was not aimed at you. It was aimed at the later post from Zyp, pointing me in the direction of the ready painted console from Design 911 @ a cost of £528!

The interior on your turbo looks fantastic IMO. (Especially those seats).

The problem with painting the centre tunnel is how long it lasts due to scratching from watch, coins etc

Are the sealing coats protective enough?

My GT3 has a body-coloured console that was done after the fact (or at least I assume it was as it's not on the spec sheet).

Looks good to me - really lifts the black interior.

Had it done previously. The bodyshop needs to make sure they use the right under treatment to allow the paint to 'stick'. Can liven up the interior nicely.

Don't know where you are. I had 355 Restorations at Dunsfold do mine. .
