More and more i find that the car i want is NOT the car i need.
What is the 996 turbo cab like ? Viable purchase or too wibbly wobbly ? Do you get that proper roof off wind in the hair feeling. I am thinking of maybe picking one up for next winter/spring/summer whilst I carry on saving for something more exotic. Haven't had a soft top in years and i would love the kids to experience one.

Not as stiff as the coupe, but ask yourself this: how often will you track it, and how often will you press the button that puts the roof down? For me, per year, it's roughly 1:300 or so.
And yes, boot it and you will get the full on wind in the hair feeling.
How tall are your kids? Around 5' and they may start to complain. Also be aware that the seat backs in the cab are vertical, if not pitched slightly forwards, so not that comfy. And without a software tweak the rear windows don't go up when the roof is down, and the rear seats aren't heated and don't have heating vents.

This thread makes me laugh as well! For different reasons....
Do you want a Cab? Yes/No
Do you want a 911? Yes/No
Do you want a 'slow' one or a Turbo? Yes/No
If the answer to the above is generally a 'yes' then BINGO!!!!!
From personal experience, I like Cabs. I was driving to lunch today and it was cold and cloudy. Was about to put the roof down until spots of rain appeared on the screen.
I can safely say I have never managed to push the boudarys properly of my C4! I soooooo wish I had the Turbo.
May even change - budget allowing to a '7 Turbo.
JUST DO IT - Nikey SWOOSH thingy

I bought one.
I can't help with comparisons with other Porsches as it's my first, or other cabriolets as it's also the first soft top I've owned.
"Wibbly Wobbly"? Not according to my untrained rump, I've no doubt it isn't as stiff at a GT3 cup car, but then it's not supposed to be
Although I don't get out in it as often as I'd like I drove to work at 6am on Tuesday morning, roof down all the way.
I was singing as I walked into the office! And I still had time to look over my shoulder and take a quick snap.........

I've got a 996 turbo coupe and a colleague of mine has a 996 C4 cab.
I drove the cab a few times this summer and thought it was great. Much more aural than mine. No major scuttle shake either. Yes you can feel its not as ridged as the coupe but still a great driving experience imo.
I also had a boxster before the tt and even though the weather is rubbish I still would have found the odd occasion to put the roof down.

Interesting comments! What has swayed you? The Cayenne has shown you a more rounded and useful spread of talents? What is the 996 turbo cab like ? Viable purchase or too wibbly wobbly ? I've driven a 997S cab (only abount 1k miles). There is no real scuttle shake to speak of. At least compared with a Boxster or Elise.
Less scuttle shake than an Elise or Boxster? Are you sure? Both those cars are designed to be softops and should therefore be way more rigid than the 997s cab.I have driven Elises and never noticed any scuttle and driven a 996 carrera 4 cab which was bloody awful and actually felt dangerously unstable.Maybe the 997 is a lot better than the 996 then.mollytherocker said:

Lol, WIlls post made me chuckle, but i can do 'generalist' as well. Was just thinking of doing something with the strad/430 fund money over the next 6 months or so. Was thinking of something thats easy to sell on and wont depreciate much. Maybe an elise or maybe a convertible 911 which would be fun when the weather is good. A 96 GT3 is an option but i really dont think i want one and it would just grate with my 993. A big part of it all for me is having motoring experiences which are new and fresh. The cayenne was just that, my first suv and i reckon a 4 seater cab would also be a real novelty and the kids would get something from it too. Covertible 997s's are lovely looking things. Never taken much notice before but there are some fab ones in the classifieds.MTR
