One for the techies.. I need to take the side air vent conduct (left hand side) out for some minor work to be performed in the inner wing.

Does anyone know how to do it?

Bear in mind I am extremely poor with anything mechanic..

Thanks in advance.
Eric.

Simple...

Go to Germany, accelerate up to around 130 mph and keep going until you hear a loud popping noise, say "WTF was that?" to your passenger and discover it neatly removed next time you stop for fuel... :P

Well, that's how I did it a couple of weeks ago, anyhow...

HTH biggrin

...Oh, nearly forgot - you have to visit a dodgy (albeit Porsche Approved) body-shop first, who presumably didn't fit it back on properly... Grrrr rage

ETA. Considering the above, I would be more concerned about fitting it back on securely, than taking it off!

I should add that a few months prior to its visit to a Porsche Approved body-shop (with a name a bit like a 1970's model of sports car from a manufacturer in Norfolk), I took this photo and both side vents were still in situ after over 3 hours at 150 mph+ speeds...

Erics they just pop out... you have to be very careful and slide something thin (something like a plaster knife) between the body and the duct, once your'e in try and get your finger tips under and just pull gently, start at bottom of duct working your way up to side nearest engine... stupid plastic sprung clips hold the ducts in place.

Probably more like 187 in reality to be fair, at a genuine 190 it would be madness wink

biggrin

It was showing 186 on the GPS, so good guess!

Of course, I put the other hand back straight after I shot this... Had to: 200kph bends are quite, err, 'interesting' at 250 kph eek

Cannot believe you took one hand of the wheel at that speed

Why?

If you think about it (and know anything about vehicle dynamics), what can a car do at that speed in a straight line, that you would be able to rectify with two hands and not with one? It isn't going to suddenly turn left or right (unless you have something very very wrong with your suspension geometry, or you have a blow-out) and even if it did, there's sod all you are going to be able to do about it at 300kph!!! In fact you are more likely to cause an accident with your hands, than save one, at that speed - a badly timed sneeze, or a wasp sting has caused many serious accidents (crashed a car myself once, due to a wasp sting!) Obviously it is more sensible to have two hands on the wheel generally, but it really makes very little difference on a straight at 200kph and above, as the car will track straight with no hands - it just might wander a bit if there's a camber or a bump - so the one hand is just gently preventing that from happening.

Actually, the biggest risk at those speeds is the car taking off - in which case holding the steering wheel at all is like hugging a comfort toy: It ain't gonna help one little bit, but it makes you feel a tiny weeny bit safer! biggrin

The one hand I can't see an issue with....

Getting your iPhone out, selecting camera mode, getting it focused and pressing the shutter I would think a little more questionable.

Having done similar speeds myself - my eyes were firmly planted on the road ahead!

haha - it was a DSLR carefully prepared long in advance, with neck strap pre-adjusted to the right height (and tested when stationary) - all I had to do was press the shutter button: If necessary, my hand could have been back on the wheel in far less time than if it had been on a gear lever, or adjusting the sun visor!

However, THIS is madness...
