Evening!

Im thinking of purchasing a 2010 Spyder but want to find one for the right price as trying to reduce depreciation as much as possible (as im sure when the ALL NEW Boxster arrives it will drop quickly! very few would choose an older model for a similar price to the all new boxster!)

I have just read a thread on here about the Spyder and one member mentioned his brother had been offered a 2010 Spyder
for 30k!!!....That scared me a little as the cheapest ive found is 34k with 5000 miles!

Also the ones that are for sale on Autotrader/Pistonheads have been on for ages which shows they are not selling well used, but dealers are holding fast on the their prices!!!

Anybody bought a used one recently / or know of one going for sensible money?? Im a cash buyer and happy to buy privately.

Any help /advice would be appreciated.

kevin

There are eleventy million threads about this!

They stopped making them in July, spring is around the corner and there won't be a replacement for years. Values are shooting up as I type!

Someone posted the other day that
those at non franchise dealers may need services and were about to run out of warranty and that the cheapest one advertised recently was less than pristine.

The other thread currently running probably answers all your questions
though.

Of course im worried about depreciation!!!, Id understand your comment if i was asking about a 200k Lamborghini or Ferrari! Im talking about buying a used car for 30-35k!!, if i wasnt worried about depreciation id go and finance a brand new one!!

I also understand that a car of this nature will loose me money, and accept that!, but the least I loose the better!!!....i may be in the lucky position to buy the car, but im certainly not a rich man and work very hard to have a nice car as they are my passion!

I paid 38k last week from a opc inc a service and the 2 years warranty.
I guess you have to pay what you feel is right but private and 3rd party ones will need an inspection, over rev check, a service, and a warranty.
Did not see any below 35k out the opc network, only the 25k miles red one for 32k.
The only other 2 i liked, one was sold straight away at 35k the other , well the dealer never phoned or contacted me back, so i guess they wanted to keep it lol.

Maybe your right about buying from an OPC, id kind of figured all cars were still in warranty so should be issue free but had no idea about over rev check etc! , maybe ill give my details to a few dealers and see what they come up with!

Thankyou for your advice

3 people on here have just bought one.
None will be about by May.
So the choice is buy now for the summer. Or buy Oct for less money.
Or wait a few years when they have level off a bit more.
If you want to lose less money you have to buy 5 year old cars, the Spyder is only 2 years old but they were 55k
So not a bad buy just now if you really want one.

if you can afford it buy a new opc pre regd car with delivery miles there are still a few left out there it wont be cheap (a lot less than price built to order)but it will ease the pain plus it will have nearly 3 years of warranty, and low maintenance costs.
come spring prices will firm up.

Some of the cars that I've been looking at within the OPC network are still there....

There are some deals to be had too - or, at least there were in December.

Two of the cars have actually been reduced in the last 2 weeks....one of which there were open to good offers on, spec wasn't right for me.

The pre-reg options are also a consideration and some dealers have a couple.

Good luck!

I would say it's perfectly safe to buy outside of OPC - private is fine, no need to get a high priced OPC car with 2 years warranty when the car you want is under 2 years old and you can extend the warranty for £1500 when it expires. Get a 111point inspection done at your local OPC before you buy which will be fine for any seller, with over rev reading etc... then slap a 2 year warranty on it at renewal for 2 years for £1500 or so, job done - same security and peace of mind as buying from OPC and you don't pay the £5k OPC premium for the privilege.

£30k should be doable private in a few months, just wait till before summer - plenty out there to choose from. Will be plenty to buy come summer.

That's what I'd do anyway......

Trade bids on my Spyder last week were around £31-33k. This was not a p/x, just a simple sale to the trade. My car has over 2 years Porsche warranty (expires March 2014), 5k miles, and above average spec (PCM, PCCB etc). Car is mint and needs no prep apart from a cheapo oil service in March.

Bad time of year to be selling the Spyder. Good time of year to be buying!

2 of the bidders (OPC's) reckon in April the bids will be slightly stronger, but atm they are not really buying - especially convertibles!

I had my eyes on a C63amg, so needed to move quick - was *slightly* tempted to take £33k (paid a sniff over £40k in August @ 4k miles), only because the Merc was £2-3k underpriced (Ferrari dealer priced the C63 to sell QUICK). The Merc sold the following day. I was too late on that car.

I could put my car on SOR (helps that it needs no warranty extension or prep) and hope to return me £35k.

Not sure what to do tbh. I had a quick blast in it at the weekend. It's so good that i'm in no rush to sell. I just like swapping cars smile

eta - my point is, i don't think you will buy a Spyder for £30k come Spring. Not unless it has higher than average mileage, dodgy spec, hidden past, or no warranty etc. The trade will pay more!

Fair enough - that bid sounds right for the spec/milage, for £30k it would be higher miles (say under 20k) and early build car without much spec private sale with warranty running out. But that will be possible in 1st half of 2012 IMO.

Trade bid if your car was early 2010my, with 20k and poor spec would be under £30k or at best £30k no?

I have to disagree

Cheapest cars for sale are 2 3rd party cars one at 36k the other at 37k with no warranty.
You are not going to pick up a spyder with 2 year warranty under 35k this side of the summer.

I looked at all the cars for sale, all needed a warranty renew, inspection and a service, some will need new rear tyres.

I put offers in at 34.5k but no one would sell at that even with all that lot needing doing.
As I said the only other car which I wanted sold at 35k and needed 2.5k inspection and warranty and that car had 3 offers and sold straight away.

to do the above would cost 2.5k add another £500 for two rear tyres and you could be looking to spend 3k on a private or 3rd party car.
I don't mind buying private but it has to be at the right price.

Wait till summer and these 2 year old cars will be sold, the only ones left on the shelf will be 45k 2011 ones or ones with normal seats.
IF private buyers are going to sell up before summer they are waiting to get a better price, buy now imo or pay more in 2 months or wait till OCT.

I cannot see any private ones for sale any way and the cheapest 3rd party car is Rybooks and that needs 3k spent on it and he is banking on spring sales and a 35.5k price.
Total ammount of 2010 car for sale is very very low and the cheapest on the OPC network does not have buckets now, as those seats from that car are in my car :-)

you are going to have to pay to play this summer at least :-)

I don't get the trade price quotes, I for one cannot buy at trade or take a car in as a part ex.

So your car now has the seats out of the Solihull car? - another one to scrub off the list!

Not sure why you'd want to put an extended warranty on a Spyder - thought they were one of the first official Porsche cars to come with the 3 year standard manu offering? Minor service maybe if can factor in to deal....

yes I have the seats out the Solihul Car, that car now has no spec at all and normal seats, I offered on that car as it's been for sale a while but they also were not taking good offers on it, but now it cannot be worth what it is up for. And to add the buckets is 6k.

all the cars I looked at only had the 2 year warranty which runs out in March and also needed a service in March, most needed new rear tyres.
And remember Porsche also state their cars need a brake fluid change at 2 years also.
I guess the 2011 cars might have the 3 year warranty.

Maybe owners deleted the 3rd year option as they knew they would not keep the car 3 years, like GT3's these will move hands a lot every year as people sell up in the winter and buy in the spring. Leicester have already sold my car twice so they are making good money keep selling the same car.

I had a over rev check print out done, not any even in range 3 which I thought was shocking good :-).
BTW if you see a car going cheap at Auction/ebay or in the 3rd party trade it may have over revs in range 4 or even 5, Porsche OPC cannot now sell a car with over revs in range 4 unless it's had an engine strip down so they get traded out and a warranty can never be put on them. I noticed in the USA some car beening sold have 2100 range 4 clicks and 514 range 5 changing hands.

I have to disagree with you.

There are 2 cars at Porsche for sale right now, both 2010 with low miles for £37k. Are you telling me you can't get these £1 below retail from an OPC? One with buckets the other with sport seats for the seat fetishist. At an indy these would be worth not more than £35k. Private these would be worth £32-£33k. Put the miles up, they are worth less, how is £30k private not possible in the next 6 months? What would the trade in bid be for an OPC car retailed at £37k? £30k-£32k? That's right now. See Phooey's trade value for evidence. Why are trade values relevant? Because if someone wants to sell fast they either trade in with a dealer or offer to sell private for £1k-£2k or so more, to minimise the hit - that's why. To some extent trade price determines private sale prices.

When warranty starts to run out, people will look to sell and put cars up private when they gawp at the trade in prices that they are getting, always the way. Get a car just coming out of warranty private, stick a 2 year extension on for circa £1500, and you're good to go.

Appreciate you've just bought one from OPC, but lets be honest about the values here...... yes there are very few avail private right now but this will not always be the case. If I bought new then I'd enjoy the car whilst within warranty period and wear out the tyres/brakes, then instead of a £4k bill for service/new tyres/brake pads/warranty renewal I may consider selling, these cars will hit the market in the next 6 months! Doesn't mean they are bad cars, haggle for new tyres and pads and you're good to go.

You buy from OPC you get the nice coffee and new tyres with stonechips done etc... but it costs £5k. Buy private and live with some stonechips, renew the warranty yourself for 2 years and save whilst getting the same car, that's the choice... and I'm saying that the OP should consider getting a private car in the next few months or so fo' sho'.
