I did not want to pollute the nice thread Manks created but have a butchers at the gap on a non-PASM 3.4L car with 20inch wheels.

It's HUGGGGGEEEEE.

You need PASM on the 3.4L whether you like it or not wink

I think that's quite a flattering shot of the new 991. Does the gap settle down after a few thousand miles? The gap on my GTS was awful and much worse than that!

I really hate those wheels. It's totally irrational, they're easily changed but just....ugh!

The gap isn't really as bad as it looks in that photo. The shadow and dark colour of the car means that you can see the flat edge to the wheel arch. You can see it on this silver car

You can't see the gap when you're driving it.

Probably - it's a Porsche publicity shot and they'll want to make it look as good as possible. My point was more that you couldn't make out the whole arch on the black car.

The pic in the op is horribly over wheeled 20 inches is too much for the profile. It looks complete gash and belongs in the 'badly modified cars' thread.

Did you actually read what I was saying in both posts above. My point is nothing to do with the wheel arch gap in the picture. There is a flat section on the wheel arch that you can on the silver car which you can't see on the black car. That is why the wheel arch gap looks SO big in the OP.

Even with the effect you are talking about its still about 2 inches different. Look at where the top of the tyre compares to the PU line. Or the bottom of the disc.

yes it is definately bigger - looks far too jacked up to me. But I dont think the second image has been played around with. I'm pretty sure the second car has PASM (picture looks as though it is from porsche website where interior of car has PASM button) and this makes a big difference to the way the car sits as the OP says. Looking at the technical specs the PASM cars sit 10mm lower and the PASM sport cars sit 20mm lower. The flipside of this is that the standard car looks high.

that lens is so wide it hurts my eyes.... never photograph a car with a lens like that, especially side on, it just makes the car look rubbish and doesn't help the appearance of the wheel arch gaps because the car is so distorted and stretched upwards (that and the fact that the lower lip of the arch is completely invisble because it also looks like black space tricking you into thinking that the gap is even bigher that it really is)

It's not my piccy - I half-inched it wink

The PR photo looks like it is sporting PASM.

The wheels in the original post are factory fitted.

What was Porsche thinking putting 20" wheels on a 911, period? They are totally out of proportion with the size/lines of the rest of the car. That thing looks bloody awful - like some pimped gangsta creation.

AFAIK the silver car has 20" wheels too.

I agree they are too big but it's the halfords design of the wheels, looks shocking.

Are you kidding?! and I think the silver car looks fantastic! Wasn't it Mrs Porsche who liked silver and Mr Porsche who liked black if I remember anything from the museum...

Have a look at a standard 930, 964 or 993 if you want to see wheel arch gap or better yet a non-lowered Corrado VR6 :-)

991 is hot but it'll be a GTS for me next in 2wd form

Oh no i agree, the silver car looks great on those wheels. I hate the black cars wheels.

The arches themselves are too big though, it's a joke really.
