Okay, early 997, and non-S, but nice colours, nice alloys, and only 43k miles.

For only £22,750? That's comparably-miled 996 C4s territory...

Maybe he genuinely wants a quick sale.

Subject to a check-over by a reputable source, I'd take his hand off for that. Between the miles, spec and condition (from the pics), that's quite a deal even if it is 'only' a C2.

Agree. Irrespective of the market conditions, it is amazing that you can buy such a recent, decent Porsche 911 for that money.

We should all be very grateful that this is the case.

Well if you know where are similar C2S cars for that kind of money (and they are straight) you could make yourself a nice little living buying them and selling them to your local Porsche centre. Seriously.

Don't see its anything special.. that's top price for a 7 year old 997 C2. Also, it's an unloved colour, standard wheels, no sports chrono, no mention of sat-nav or tel module, standard seats, standard wheels, no mention of service history...

When I click in that ad, it has 'S' wheels, Sports seats, Full Porsche History not to mention Sunroof, Bose etc.

The mention of front and rear head restraints is always an alarm bell for me though with these ads.....

So where are the C2S cars with fewer miles for £24-25k? You keeping those back for yourself pending a juicy resale deal with the main dealer?

It looks as though he wants a quick sale. A similar car to that would only be worth approx £20k trade at the moment (£20.5k with full spec including sport chrono and 37k miles)

There are quite a few about.....no idea on condition or remedial works needed, same applies to OP's suggested car...

Obviously, there's an amount of negotiation assumed!

However, based on the price/spec of the car that the guys at OPC Notts offered me this morning, I can only assume that you must be getting a fantastic price on yours!!

Ah, so not £24-25k and as you point out there's probably a reason why they are priced where they are.

I am not sure that "fantastic price" and "OPC" ever appear in the same sentence where buying cars is concerned, do they? But I doubt that you would like the price they'd be asking for my car when they'd added 2 years warranty.

There were a couple floating about over the past few weeks, just no time to hunt out the links now!

Besides, I'm not sure that a 4% discount is an unreasonable expectation on a private sale negotiation!

Notts OPC are certainly proving to be interesting with their pricing....a well prepped car is easily worth a £2.5k premium over private IMO....throw it a bit of profit...(esp inlight of recent Führer showroom demands!!)....let's make it £5k!...but Notts seem to be ways off comparably!

That £23k 997 does seem temptingly good value (once inspected...)

Thinking aloud though, won't all 997s be better value say 6 months after the 991's out? (although admittedly I don't know how soon that's supposed to be... hangs head in shame)

I felt a bit burned when I sold my Boxster a few years back, due to the value hit it took when the newer model was launched during my ownership. Wasn't so bad in the context of the years I'd owned it though, and it had been a brilliant car, c'est sera and all that.

Based upon conversations I've had with them they were looking to add about £8k to what they'd buy my car for. So £2k of that goes on warranty, then there's preparation, servicing etc etc. Also they have the overheads of the business and of course profit to consider.

They also have to make sure they are selling the "right" cars. There does seem to be a tendency amongst some would-be buyers to find the cheapest car in the classifieds and make the assumption that all cars of the same model and year should be the same price. With maybe a couple of grand premium from a dealer.

The reality is that there is a huge spread of values based upon a myriad of factors for cars of the same model and year.

I have seen a disproportionate number of 997 drivers cruising about smoking in their cars. Is a car reeking of B&H worth the same as one that still smells new?

The difference in new price between a pov spec car and a good one can be five figures. Some people seem to want to ignore this when comparing prices. One silver car for sale at Cambridge kept being trotted out as proof that C2S prices should be cheaper not so long ago. Not only was it Big Issue spec it had no Sat Nav. Should this affect value? Not in the minds of some, it seemed.

Need I carry on? Suffice it to say that there are lots of factors that determine the retail or private value of a car and they are often ignored by the doomsters, would-be buyers and wishful thinkers.

Absolutely agree - I'm referring to Notts specifically really as opposed to the general marketplace.

I have looked at a couple of their cars over the past 3 - 4 weeks....and in all cases (bar 1 tip), they just weren't OPC competitive? in both pricing and finish terms. Perhaps it's their lack of stock vs catchment and the usual demand scenario.

Who knows - providing that you're not a keen smoker and your children haven't been colouring in the seatbacks....no doubt they'll be keen to get yours on-stock!!
