Hi folks,

This is regarding a 2.7 Cayman:

The car was first registered late July 06, but the VIN year of manufacture(10th digit) is 7(2007), the sequence number is in the 03-- range.

I was under the impression the year of manufacture was the year the car was released from the factory, is that not correct?

I'm trying to find as accurately as possible the date of manufacture and release from the factory.

Left a bit out, can anyone confirm that some caymans actually do have the M96 engine? And is that a 3.4-only thing as far as the Cayman goes? There seems to be some confusion.

Thanks.

That digit relates to model year, the manufacturing for which can start from a few months earlier (August I thought, July does sound early but not ridiculously so). Porsche GB will provide a Certificate Of Authenticity for older cars and may be able to do the same for all car - it's about £60 but was free for Porsche Club GB members. HTH smile

For nearly all manufacturers the model year begins (usually) in September.
There have been many variations in the starting date for model years, for example the 2004 Cayenne year started very early in 2003.

The dealer can provide the the DOP (date of production) and the original engine number.

2007 Cayman will have either the M97/20 (base Cayman) or M97/21 (Cayman S engine).
The number is easily visible under the engine.

My Cayman S was registered 10.08.06 but is Model Year 2007 (Sept 2006 on). It was first registered to Porsche UK, so my thought is that it may have been a press car.
